I have both in my mouth. My boys each have 1 or 2 fillings, but I'm not sure what they have, as their fillings are in the back. My dentist tries to use the teeth colored fillings if she thinks the filling will be visible.
The mercury levels in fillings are so low as to be insignificant. Also, studies are now showing that BPA is actually quite harmless in the levels that we had been receiving before the scare and that the replacements for BPA are not any safer (or more dangerous) than BPA. So pretty much, it was much to do about nothing.
Fillings are incredibly safe. If you have specific concerns, ask your dentist. He/she should be able to answer any questions you might have.
Overall, I think you just have to live your life, realize that not everything is perfect. The materials used for fillings are not perfect, but they are about 1000 times better than not getting cavities filled. And it's just not worth living your life in fear.
