my LO loved frozen grapes and blueberries. He only used it for a little bit and while I found them kinda hard to clean, he did enjoy them! I would say just put them in the dishwashing when the rinse cycle is going and you should be fine.
Ladies-
I've seen these at the pharmacy. These mesh bag type things which you are supposed to put food into. They are supposed to help in that transitional period, also they can help with teething. We are very much at that stage. Our son is 6 months old. He's drooling up a storm. I held a piece of canteloupe for him to gum, and he loved it, but I was really concerned that a piece could break off and he'd choke on it.
Have any of you used these mesh suckers? If so, which would you recommend? Are they eaasy to clearn? how long can I expect to be using them (i'm guessing a month or so at best).? what do you put in yours?
Thanks a bunch.
Thank you for your advice and recommendations. I bought two MUNCHKIN mesh teethers/ self feeders. At first I was daunted by how hard it would be to open, but after a run through the dishwasher they were easy as pie. Thus far we've tried banana and watermelon. Both were big hits with baby. They are messy as warned, but they do give him a lot of satisfaction and relief. I haven't had any problems as yet with the cleanup. Also, no signs that the mesh is falling apart or breaking off in his mouth.
It's a winner in our eyes, and a real relief for our little boy.

I LOVE THEM!! I always give them as gifts, because not too many moms have seen them/heard of them around here. I stumbled upon them when my 2nd was starting finger foods. They sell 2 kinds... one has replacable mesh. I had the other kind, and used to throw them in the dishwasher. The only thing that was a pain to get out was banana. They're truly wonderful and super easy... I would totally recommend at least trying it :)
I use them for my teething 6 month old, she loves it!! I only use frozen fruits/veggies in them though. Sometimes even crushed up ice. She will sit there and suck and bite on that thing for an hour! Expect your baby to be very messy! I don't know what brand I have, but I bought a 2 pack at Babies R Us for about $6. I think they are very easy to clean.
Wow, I think this is a great idea, wish they'd had them when MY kids were teething! :(
I would probably freeze the fruit before putting it in the bag. Helps with gum pain, plus fruit will be mushy by the time a chunks comes off!
:)
Love it! I always get the munchkin brand. I have started adding these to our baby shower gifts too. We learned early on to just strip the kids down to their diaper and be ready for a little mess. We used it for a lot of foods and even ice cubes during teething. We used it for watermelon, cantaloupe, apple slices, bananas, plum slices (with no peel), raw carrots and broccoli. Banana does make the biggest mess, but both of my kids loved frozen banana. Like the other poster I simply sprayed it off immediately and I also used a toothbrush to get it clean.
I used them and I think mine were Munchin brand. I used them from 5 months until about 14 months. I used fresh and frozen fruit, frozen juice, and popsicles or fruit bars. They are really nice because they take away the choking hazard. I would rinse it well inside and out with my sink sprayer, then run it through the dishwasher. We loved ours!
I used bananas and frozen blueberries for my DD. A toothbrush does work great for cleaning them. I boiled them after I scrubbed them, but I did warp the inner part that held water (for freezing I think, was the purpose of water in it) but it still worked great. They are awesome for teething!
i used them for a few months. Boil them, even for a couple minutes.

They have the same item at local stores for cheaper oftentimes, so look at your local Wal Mart or Target first. I don't think one brand is much better than any other when it comes to this type of product.
I would suggest putting more firm fruits in the mesh bag, such as a skinned apple or melon. Softer fruits like bananas make way too much of a mess.
And I warn you, no matter what, this thing is messy! But, I think it is worth it.
Happy Feeding!
they are sooooo hard to clean. I threw mine out after the 2nd try with bananas. I wouldn't recommend them.
I used a Munchkin brand one with my oldest. I would put frozen fruit in it when she was teething. It was awesome! My youngest never liked it though. I think the texture of the bag thing freaked her out.
They are AWESOME!!! lol. But I do what the others say not to, and use mainly for bananas. My DD LOOVES when I put bananas in and freeze it. (especially for teething!) Like the others say, it is pretty messy, so I usually strip her down and stick her in her high chair. She also LOVES plain ice cubes in it when she's teething. Really, that's the only time I ever use it.
~When I clean it after the banana, I just use the sprayer on the sink and a toothbrush to get everything off, then run it through the dishwasher to sanitize (they are dishwasher safe) I got mine in a 2-pack from walmart.
I bought mine at a Babies R Us. I would put anything you can think of in mine, even the biter biscuits because I was afraid he would break off a piece and choke. I relaxed a lot after my first child. I would say its best use was as a teether. Very easily washable. I think I used mine for several months and only ever owned the one.
Both I and my daughter LOVED the mesh suckers. We picked up a pack from Babies R Us. I had a total of four and lasted 6 months, and by that time she no longer had intrest of need for them. To clean I rinsed well after each use then stuck in the dishwasher.
Any frozen or fresh fruits that your child likes. Bananas do not work well but fun to squeeze through the mesh :) I also did a crushed up ice, that really helps sooth the teething, keeps them hydrated on hot days (of course my daughter feel in love with ice after that, she still sucks on it 4 years later).
Those are great, but NEVER put in a soft fruit like a banana. So hard to clean off! They great for teething.
