Microfiber Cleaning Ideas?

We will be having overnight company the end of next month - from out of state. I want to get some "extra" cleaning done than the usual daily and weekly cleaning that gets done. My husband has "his chair" that he always sits in (never on the sofa when he's in the living room). He has an oily scalp and I'm not sure if you would call it a stain, but you can tell where his head sets on the chair (he shaves his head, so it's scalp to chair... no hair). It's a discoloration in that spot his head rests. I would like to know how you would remove this "stain". I don't want to wreck the material of the chair, or leave water marks. Right now I have a blanket draped over the back of the chair. The rest of the chair looks fine. Any ideas??
Thanks in advance,
~SR

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for the advice! :) I did one piece of furniture at a time... of course my hubby's chair first. I did his a couple times as I didn't feel the first time cleaned well enough. After cleaning his chair, I had to do mine and the sofa too. Heaven forbid, I have one clean chair and so-so for the other two!-LOL

It was a pain to get done, as I don't have a shampooer. I used a ice cream pail filled with hot water and a few drops of dish soap. I did this all by hand, scrubbing and then using a wet/dry vac... then dry with the hair dryer. The person who said the trick was drying it was right. I got tired of using my hair dryer, so I tried sitting the box fan in front of the sofa. That idea didn't work as well (have a couple water spots). I guess I should put a shampooer on my Christmas list :)

Thanks everyone!

Oh yeah,... now my husband thinks it looks so nice -- he wondered if I could do the carpet too! I told him HE could do THAT! (I have enough housework, thank you)

We have two microfiber couches and are constantly getting things on them. I use a little Dawn and water on the spots and every spot has come out including ink! Hope it works for you. K.

We also have microfiber furniture. The kids had colored on it so I called the company (we had the extended warranty for stains), anyway the "professional" came out with Lemon Joy Dishwashing liquid and a hair dryer. He cleaned the spot with the dishwashing liquid on a cloth with water and then made sure that the area was throughly dried with the hair dryer. He said that main problem is that people don't make sure that the spot gets dried right away - leaving what appears to be a stain or watermark.

We've tried doing it ourselves since then and he is right!! Give it a try!!

I would just try Dawn and water. It does a good job of getting oily stains out. Then if that didn't work you could go to something stronger.

My husband has the same problem and we have a microfiber couch. I just used Resolve and it worked really well. I'd test it on a small unnoticable area but hey, if you have it- it's free.

Try using a portable shampooer like a Bissel Little Green Machine, or a handheld Dirt Devil shampooer. You can get these for 35 dollars and up depending on the store you go to. I have an upright Bissel carpet shampooer with a hand scrubber attachment, and it does wonders on furniture stains and dirty carpets. Mine are white and it gets them like new everytime. I had a barf incident on the furniture, can't tell and no bad smells.

We had the same problem! Rubbing (isoprophyl)alcohol on cotton balls works great! Otherwise weuse our Bissell Little Green cleaner with furniture cleaner! Works great!

Dear SR:

I have microfiber furniture also. It says not to use laundry soap and to use the cleaning kit that cost a pretty penny. I recently cleaned up my furniture with greased lightning and dawn dish soap and water.

I have many grandchildren who come to visit. They eat their snacks and whatever. They have left anywhere from grease stains to chocolate to juice stains and everything else.

The greased lightning is the grease cutter along with the dawn also a grease cutter which makes things easier for clean up. Careful not to saturate too much water. I thought about steam cleaning, but never tried it. After the clean up with a sponge and scrubber on the other side, I would vacuum up the excess water with a shop vac and ta da!, no more stains. Takes about an hour or so to dry. No water stains either. A little febreeze and it dries, just like new.

Hope this helps as it did for me!

I highly recommend Folex carpet stain remover solution. I used this for the same application on my husband's 'favorite chair' and it came out. You should try it first on an indiscreet area, of course:) Good luck!

I don't know if it will work for micro fiber but I had the same problem on our leather recliner and I used a magic eraser on it. It worked great.
