I have alot of bad headaches and I have tried everything to get rid of them, and nothing has worked for me at all especially Tylenol.I get the headaches somtimes when my cycle comes, but they really come when the heat outside is really high and sometimes they come for no reason.Sometimes when they come they are so bad that my left side of my body is hurting which is my eye, ear, and my neck and I really don't know what to do.I went to my doctor and he ran test but he said all the test was negative and the cholesteral test was normal. When my head this bad sometimes I can't even function right to take care of things around my house, and things be so blurry and I hope that nothing is really wrong and they just can't fnd it.Has anyone else been through this at all.I love caffine and chocolate but I don't get headaches when I don't have it. Thanks in advance

I have a friend that goes through the same thing. She's had many test done and they can't find anything. Someone told her that it could be something that she's eating, so she started keeping a record of what she ate. She's found that wheat and gluten are high allergants among many other foods. I will pass this along to her and see if she can give you more insite and advice.

I'm gonna echo the chiropracter advice - and make sure it's someone you can trust. Perhaps someone in the Houston area on mamasource could give a recommendation?
The first time mom and I went to the 'headache doctor' he listened to our list of symptoms and then sent us home to keep an "Intake Diary" for 6 weeks. Anything that went in our mouths got put on the list - food, water, vitamins, pain relievers, etc.
This is essentially what I did with my daughter - food elimination diet. Turns out she's allergic to corn and food dyes. They give her bad headaches. It's been known for some time now that Red 40 and MonoSodiumGlutamate/MSG (can) cause migraines...
And the reason she was always complaining of headaches was because some form of corn is in most everything (modified food starch, sorbitol, dextrose, caramel coloring, etc). I make the vast majority of our food from scratch now, and she's been virtually headache free for 5mos now. All that to say, please don't rule out what your eating as a possible cause of your migraines.

HTH and you'll be in my prayers

Hi R.-

Are you drinking enough water? Dehydration can cause headaches and you did mention that they are worse when it's particularly hot outside.

Good Luck,
K.

Hi R.,
My name is Maggie and I have suffered from Classic Migraines(there are several types) since I was 11. I am in my 40's now and still get them almost every month around my cycle. You need to go see a neurologist right away. They run tests on you and can tell by your brain wave patterns whether you have migraines or not. It sounds like you do.

I take Imitrex during this time and it is a God send. I can not tell you how wonderful this medication is. My migraines can be infulenced by food, weather and even strong smells, but my cycle is the definate determinate.

I can tell you preventatives do not work very well. This is medicine that you take daily like betablockers and such. Don't waist your time. You let them know that you want something to relieve the headache when you get them, not something that will change your preception of life. Imitrex works on the blood vessels in your brain and is non addictive. It is better then anything else I have taken in my many years of taking various medications.

You will be able to function in a very short time once you take the medication. Don't put this off. You can end up in the ER for hours waiting for a shot of Demerral(sp?). This has happened to me. Some of us just don't adjust well to chemical changes in our bodies.

Neurologist appointments can take months to get, so get started. In the mean time, a week before your period try to stay away from spegetti and marrinara sauces, processed meats, banannas, and cigarrette smokers. If you get a migrane, lie down with a icepack on your head, take some excedrin, get a babysitter if you can so you can relax and be in a dark room and keep it cool in your house. By the way chocolate doesn't affect me with my headaches and only if I drop from 3 cups of coffee to zero does it even give me a headaches. Everyone is different, but these things helped me.

May God bless you with a quick diagnosis and a speedy response to the medication.

You might want to see a headache/migraine specialist for further testing. They might be able to identify the root cause, and if not at least give you a prescription to prevent and/or abort migraines. I'm not a doc, but what you are describing sounds like a migraine to me.

Definitely keep a headache/migraine diary. Keeping a log helped me identify some of my migraine triggers, some of which are avoidable for me.

As far as otc meds, Excedrin migraine has worked the best for me in the past. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding though it is not a good choice because of the aspirin content.

A site I have found informative & helpful dealing with my migraines is http://www.healthcentral.com/migraine/

R.,

I suffer from migraines and completely understand how debilitating they are. I was on a treatment to reduce the severity and frequency of them. I would 1st suggest to see a Neurologist. There are many goods ones in San Antonio that I could recommend. Also, do keep a food log/activity log because that could tell you what exactly triggers your headaches. A common food that does cause migraines is MSG (contained in many chips, chinese food) also aged cheeses, alcohol, stress, lack of sleep, etc... I could go on. If you have any questions please dont hesitate to send me a message. Hope all is well.

Go to a Chiropractor as soon as possible! The chiropractor will work wonders in just a few weeks and will also help you find the 'cause' of the headaches, i.e. stress, certain foods or toxins in your cleaning agents that are triggering the pain.

Hi R., I am also a mother of 3 and I suffer from migraines as well, although now they are few and far between. I have had migraines since I was 15 yrs old. When I was pregnant with my 3rd child, I was having severe migraine attacks & was hospitalized twice. I was afraid to take medication, so I turned to a chiropractor. I had to go 3 times a week for about a month, then eventually I started having to go less. I noticed right away how much that helped. Since my treatment ended, I have never had to take prescription medication again. I hope this helps you.
