Milk? - Cuba,MO

I drink 1% or 2% and my hubby like whole milk. He will drink mine, but doesn't care for it too much. The problem is he very rarely drinks milk and I drink it every day. I eat a bowl of cereal for breakfast every morning therefore buying what I like not what he likes. I have tried to buy him a 1/2 gallon of what he likes, but it always goes bad before he drinks it. So would you buy him what he wants or make him suck it up and drink what I want to buy for myself?

What can I do next?

LOL- I think they sell those 1 serving size bottles, get some of those. My daughter and I like to have OJ for breakfast, but we can't drink a normal container before it goes bad, so I buy the small simply orange. It is slightly more expensive, but throwing away old OJ is more wasteful. So I would get him one or two of the small ones, OR buy a container of lactose free milk, it stays fresh longer.

It depends how much it really matters to him... and it doesn't sound like much because he doesn't drink it...and therefore, I wouldn't buy it... he'll get use to your milk!

I'd have him drink mine or he can run and get himself a quart when he feels he has to have whole milk. I didnt think anyone drank whole milk anymore cept for babies :)
I dont even like how thick it is anymore. We do total non fat in our home. Even 1% seems greasy to me.

Why not have him go to the store himself when he wants milk and buy his own quart? I wouldn't make my husband do anything. He is a grown man and would go out and buy his own and if he didn't feel like it, I'm sure he would drink whatever is on hand. You guys aren't fighting over milk are ya?! Lol!!

LOL - we have 3 different types of milk in my fridge right now..and there are only 3 of us living here. My husband drinks skim cows milk. My son and I drink Almond milk. I use Silk/Soy milk in my lattes (I LOVE Almond milk in every way outside of coffee). I would buy him the milk he likes in a very small quantity.

Suck it up and drink what you drink. Or tell him whenever he has the urge for some whole milk, buy one of the small kids bottles of it at the store on his way home.

I say, if he really wants it, ha can go buy it himself.
BTW, I LOVE whole milk, and it really isn't THAT different; 2% has 2% milk fat, whole has 4%.

am i super sneaking??? wondering if he would notice if you empties his whole milk half gallon and poured your 2% inside, maybe doing it gradually. you might have to get really sneaking and find a way to smudge up the date so he doesn't get suspicious.

seriously, your logic makes sense to me, you drink more, so buy it and use it and he should suck it up. men!

Buy what will be drunk and not wasted. Another option is to buy him the 1/2 gallon and freeze half. Then when he finishes a 1/4, get out the frozen 1/4 for him.

I would make him drink what you are drinking. The high fat milk is unnecessary for most adults.

The organic whole milk lasts a lot longer - almost 2 months. Surely, he'd finish a 1/2 gallon in 2 months time!

Or buy the single serve bottles - like Prairie Farms - and let him crack one open when he wants some.

I would buy what I wanted in this instance and see about just buying him the smallest amount or if he decides he wants some milk he could run to the convenience store and buy himself a quart. Or I might get him a quart every few weeks or so.

Yes, I would buy him what he likes. We have milk sold in pints and quarts here as well.

MY guy likes cranberry juice and tomato juice, which no one else will drink. Ch-Ching!

Just FYI, whole milk is processed less and has fewer synthetic chemicals in it making it better for you. I'd keep my hubby as healthy as I could so if he wants it, I'd buy it...

My two cents.

PS. from uic.edu "What is the percent of fat content in "whole" milk as compared to "two-percent" milk ?
ANSWER: Whole milk is 3.5% fat (this is approximate, depending on the cow's diet) and " two-percent" milk contains just 2% fat. So, "two-percent" milk is not 98% fat free. It is about 1.5/3.5 = 3/7 or 43% fat-free. There is approximately 1 1/2 tsp. of butter in whole milk, 1 tsp. of butter in two-percent milk, 1/2 tsp. of butter in one-percent milk and no butter in skim milk."

Get him the smallest size possible. There's got to be a quart size or smaller.(I don't drink cow's milk, and only use soy for my tea, so I understand his situation.) I know it sounds excessive, but half-n-half is sold in small containers. Maybe ask him if this would appeal to his taste buds. When we were kids, we loved when we ran out of milk and had to use half-n-half in our cereal.

We always have 3 gallons of milk in our refrigerator, whole for the 19 month old, 2% for the 3 year old, and skim for myself. My husband drinks all 3, he doesn't care either way.

I say when he wants some milk, he can go buy a small carton or pint at the store. If he doesn't drink it that often why buy it and let it go to waste?

I second buying a 1/2 gallon and freezing half of it. Freezing it does not change anything. Also, another trick that restaurants and even high end hotels use: add water to whole milk to make it seem more like 2% or 2% more like skim. I think it is 2 parts milk to one part water. This way if he doesn;tdrink it, you could try.

I'd tell him to suck it up. Buy 2% as a compromise. Tell him it's a waste of money to buy him his own. If he doesn't agree, he can buy himself some.

My husband loves whole milk, but we get 2% because I like it better than 1 % or whole milk. He drinks it, but does not like it. I say keep buying the 2% its a little more of the middle ground.
