ETA: You might get more answers if you use the title line...instead of saying "mom of 2" - maybe try editing your post to "How to celebrate my son's birthday at school"

I would take in fruit. I would NOT take in Popsicle's as you don't know if they have a place to store it...unless you are going to be there for the 'party'...did you talk to the teacher about this? is he/she okay with a party in the classroom???
Instead of food - why not bring in pencils and crayons??? then you don't have to worry about allergies and they can USE them!!!
Wow! The poster just sent me a nasty PM regarding my below response. She's also since renamed her post.

Going along with Cheryl O. please put the subject in the title line so we don't have to open up the question in order to find out the subject. I looked at your profile and this is the 17th question you've asked that started out with the title of "Mom of 2". I hope I don't sound rude, just trying to be honest, but the next time I see Mom of 2 in the subject line I won't even bother opening up the question.
How about little fruit cups with apples, oranges, and grapes?
Pencils and erasers were always a big hit with my kids' classes.
Our dollar store has big packages of really cute ones.
Little kids are pretty easy to please. You don't have to worry about going overboard.
Best wishes.
I second 2 daughter-1son-2cats-1hubby's comment as I haven't opened your posts in all the years you've been on the board because of your (vague) titles. I don't think there is any reason to get rude with her. She told you for your own benefit. Please consider her suggestion moving forward.
Now onto your question - many schools have banned food in the schools for this reason. If it is a milk protein allergy you can not go with a lactaid milk or lactose free item. You also have to consider the product can not contain butter/margarine or the like. Therefore a non-food item might be a better choice. Pretzels are a food item that is typically safe.
Again, milk can present itself as casein or whey. Unless you can become proficient at reading labels, I'd avoid prepared foods.
Someone suggested using Lactaid, but please find out more about this child's allergy before doing that. Lactaid just removes lactose from the milk and many people with milk allergies are allergic to the protein in the milk (in which case they cannot have Lactaid). You could try cooking with rice milk if you really wanted to do something. Just make sure they are not allergic to all dairy (to see if you need to exclude butter too).
I like the fruit idea! Good luck.
Check out ediblearrangements.com. They make arrangements with cute charachters instead of a cake or cupcakes.
Fruit snacks? Popsicles?
You can make cookies. Buy Rice Milk to substitute for regular milk, and use crisco instead of butter.
You could do the same with cupcakes, as long as you make the cake from scratch. Cake mixes often have powered milk in them. Some brands of icing do not have milk in them, you can check the label, or you can make the icing.
I'm guessing you want to know about cooking something sans milk?
Try Lactaid (in the milk section). It's milk-milk without the lactose. It IS real milk (not soy, not imitation, etc). Use that in your recipe and it'll be cool.
That's assuming his milk allergy is lactose intolerance. If you don't know, just take fruit.
DO NOT USE LACTAID! If it is truly a milk allergy, Lactaid will not help at all.
Ghiradelli double chocolate brownies are totally dairy free. Make sure you don't get the Triple Chocolate, as these do contain dairy. But the double chocolate don't. Don't use butter to grease the pan and you'll be all set. Grease it with PAM original or even just line the pan with non-stick foil and don't grease it at all. Those are super tasty and the class will love them.
I also have a fantastic chocolate cake recipe that is totally dairy free. I can email it if you PM me your email address.
Duncan Hines yellow cake is also dairy free. So is Duncan Hines Homestyle Chocolate frosting.
My son is 100% dairy free as his allergy is pretty severe, so you can trust that all of these suggestions are safe for any milk allergy.
