My daughter is also allergic to cow's milk, and I found a good cookbook at the library "What's to eat : the milk-free, egg-free, nut-free food allergy cookbook" by Linda Marienhoff Coss. It has recipes for vanilla and chocolate cakes as well as for frostings. You can substitute soy or rice milk in recipes, but I was told by an allergist not to use goat's milk because their proteins are very similar to cow's milk. Also avoid cool whip because casein is a milk derivative. There are a few margarines out there that are milk free as well. I use Fleischmann's UNSALTED (salted contains milk). Hope this helps!
