I am trying to get my son to take his milk from a sippy cup and it just isn't working. I realize that it's only been a day but can someone please tell me that it's going to get better. I'm not sure if it's the milk or the cup. I've bought at least 3 different types of sippy cups for him to try. He doesn't seem to like any of them. I've gone from a Gerber, Nuby to even a Born Free brand. Please help!

What can I do next?

yes, it gets better and takes time. What I did with my twins was introduce the sippy with water first (at about 5 mos), so they could play around with it, test it out at their leisure and I wouldn't have to worry about whether it dripped or needed refrigerating. We started milk in the sippy at around a year and I'd say it took a few months before they really got the hang of it.

My son didn't seem to know what to do with a sippy cup. He just kept chewing on the spout...until I took out the little insert that kept it from dripping. Then the milk could drip out for him and he finally made the connection that if he sucked on it something good was inside. I was able to put the no-drip insert back in after he got the hang of sucking on the spout. So, you might try a type of sippy that has a removeable insert or a spout that doesn't need much suction to make the milk come out. Hope you find something that works for you.

C.,

Keep offering it to your son. Change is hard for all of us and kids are no different. It just takes some time to get used to it. I would say though to stick with one particular sippy cup at first- good luck!

We went through this exact same thing. We ended up using the cups with the straws for his milk and leaving the sippy cups for water and juice. He felt like a big boy and could tell what we were offering him just by the cup. That worked for a while and then when he later went on a complete milk strike we resorted to adding a swig of chocolate milk in with his milk. We found a great, natural, low sugar chocolate milk and he loves helping add about a tablespoon to his cup each day.
Good luck

dont worry it will get better! my daughter was that way, she wouldnt take a sippy cup. so finally i would give her a cup and wouldnt let her drink anything but her cup. when she was thirsty enough, she drank from it, and the rest is history. shes still picky though about the brands. she wont take nuby, she liked the cups with elmo on it, i cant remember who they are made by. make it fun. take him to the store to pick a cup out, that he likes, and tell him what a big boy he is. thats what happened with my daughter. good luck, and things will get easier i promise!

We used the Nuby sippy cups for her milk (softer tips) and even though she already used sippy cups for water she didn't immediately want to take her milk out of cup. Did you switch from a bottle or nursing? It took my daugher about 3 days or so to not be mad about not getting a bottle and drink her milk. She now drinks (chugs) a 9 ounce sippy cup of milk in the morning. She loves milk now! I wouldn't keep switching cups- just let him know this is the cup he has to drink out of and eventually he will realize that is the only option.
