Milk Intolerance... - Troutdale,OR

So, I have been doing some reading and it seems that my 12 month old has a milk intollerance instead of a staright out allergy. This is good news because it is outgrown a lot more often. So, my question is: if goat milk (the only thing we have found for our little since he is allergic to soy) is also an allergen like cow's milk, then, what should he be drinking so that he doesn't get asthma and enviornmental allergies? He is teething so he is not really into eating a lot of foods, and we have to be careful because he can't eat yogurt, cheese, soy based foods, etc.. He doesn't like goat cheese, but he does like goat yogurt. But, again, its all goat and since asthma does run in the family, I am a little concerned...any suggestions? Thanks so much mamas and papas!

UPDATE: He can't do lactaid/lactose milk because it is the protein not the sugar that he is reacting to. We tried the Good Start formula because they are supposed to be broken down more, but he screamed until we stopped. Also, I looked at almond milk and it has some negative qualities for babies, (I can't remember right now), but I think a dietician might be a good idea. I will ask the ped dr since the wic dietician they make me see is of absolutely NO help.

What can I do next?

My son has the same issue. If milk or butter is one of the ingredients (a small ingredient) he is fine but no buttercream frosting, cheese, or milk. He is 4 and he has been off dairy since age 2. I give him a variety of supplements as we wont drink any form of "milk". You can also give him fortified juice or granola bars. I give my son Lil Critters Calcium and also Animal Parade Calcium. I also give him liquid calcium with his fish oil every night. Go to the health food store, they can help you out.

Talk to your pediatrician about options.
Some kids dont like to drink milk after the infant weening.
In all reality think about it, babies drink milk for a time and then stop.
Humans are the only species that continue to drink another animals milk.
It's not a necessary consumption.

My son had an intolerance to cow's milk when he first switched off from formula. So he drank goat's milk for about a year. He was an asthma baby from about 6 months on, but I never noticed a correlation between goat's milk and asthma attacks. His asthma was definitely not caused by the goat milk.

He outgrew the intolerance at about 2.5 and has been happily drinking cow's milk for the 14 years since then.

If they were my child I would take them to a naturopath who does NAET.
Go to NAET.com and check it out. It is non-invasive, easy and for the child usually fun.

When I developed a milk intolerance after my baby was born, I drank the Lactaid milk, which never upset me.

It is good that soy is not an option. It is read by the body as estrogen and is not good for boys or girls.

Alimentum formula is supposed to work for babies who can't have dairy. It's super pricey though. At 12 mos. I'm not sure if it's necessary to continue formula??? Maybe goat's milk with some sort of flavoring (instant breakfast, ovaltine etc) would work (not sure if they contain casein).

Good luck!
