Minivan/SUV With Independent DVD Speakers ")

Does anyone own a minivan or large SUV that has a DVD player that works independently from the front speakers- without using headphones?
I have a 3 y/o & 18 month old that cannot wear headphones b/c they're too big for their small heads. The Honda Odyssey we like only plays the sound for the movie either through the headphones or for the entire car.
We own the Volvo XC90 now & the front/rear speakers work separately.... however, we need a larger car when our 3rd baby arrives this summer (3 car seats is too tight); the DVD is a godsend when we take long trips to visit family out of state.
Thanks! :)

You may want to look in to the portable players and see if they have their own speaker systems. Or maybe you can plug the portable players in to one of those IPOD speaker things.

I know that the in the Honda Odyssey you have the ability to turn the sound all the way to the back speakers. While you cannot listen to something separate from the DVD you can at least keep Mickey Mouse out of the earshot in front seat.

Good Luck!

You can purchase a small set of speakers that plug in to the headphone jack--probably your best and least expensive bet. You'll find them at Best Buy or Target.

My husband's Cadillac Escalade has an integrated DVD system on which you can "mute" the front speakers when the DVD is playing and the kids aren't using headphones. It doesn't help us completely avoid the sound, but it's better than blaring it in the foreground. (It's definitely still best when they use their headphones and we can put the speakers to something we prefer.) I imagine the other GM full size SUVs (Chevy Suburban, etc.) which are basically the same car would have the same setup.

I have a 08 Dodge Grand Caravan and it doesn't have the independent speakers anymore. It comes with the wireless headphones. I usually just turn the front speakers off so that they can hear their DVD in the back and we don't get any sound up front.

We have an 04 Honda Odyssey and it has independent speakers. We listen to the radio upfront and Shaun has the DVD in the back seat. Though we can still hear his DVD obviously which gets annoying having so much different sounds in the car after a while.

I believe the Volkswagon Routon has back speakers independent of the front, but I'm not positive.
