Miralax/constipation

I just want to add my voice: breastfed babies often go several days without a bowel movement, if you're worried ask a doctor, please don't give a baby any medication!

My daughter's ped. recommended prune juice when she was an infant. About 1 ounce mixed with water. It was very helpful, yet gentle.

try warm prune juice if hes constipated. dont use miralax unless you consult with his peditrition. miralax is not to be used with children under the age of 2.

Do not give Miralax to a baby that young. Call the pediatrician.

DON'T your grandson is too young for miralax, call his doctor. Newborn baby boys can have a condition that partially blocks their intestion, easily taken care of by the doctor, deadly if ignored too long. Please don't try to medicate a baby that young at home without the doctor.

NONE! He is too young...call the Doc...see what he/she reccommends...maybe even an office visit to see why he is constipated, could be he needs a different formula.

You should not be giving constipation medication to a 1 month old, unless the pediatrician has prescribed it, which I can't imagine they ever would at this age. It is way too strong for such a little body. Water, administered with a medicine dropper several times a day can help, or an ounce of prune juice should do the trick. Also, please consult with the pediatrician if this method does not help, or it is a recurrent problem.

I would not be giving a one month old a laxative. Get him on a good probitotic and find out what is causing his constipation. Usually it's milk, soy, corn products. If the mom is breastfeeding she has to eliminate foods and find out. If formula fed switch to a non dairy/non soy. ALso check out NAET treatment which will eliminate the allergies/sensitivites for good because this problem will plague him for yrs to come.

One month seems way too young to me. Have you tried other dietary changes? and discussed this with a dr?

sadly people are giving their children more and more medication, dosing them up at such an early age. Medicine is not good to take. Your daughter is hopefully nursing and with that, she should see what foods she's eating b/c they create the nourishment for your grandson. Constipation, illness, etc are the body's way to tell you something is up. If you mask it with some junk you won't get to the root of the problem. Find out why he's constipated, if he is at all and then fix it.

I don't think you can give it to a baby that young , you would be better off using 3oz of cooled boiled water and 1oz of prune juice , that will shift the initial blockage , then give 1-2oz daily of cooled boiled water as a drink to stop it coming back. Unfortunately if he is formula fed this is one of the draw backs!

My son (now 5) has been on miralax since he was 2. He currently takes 1/2 a cap-full in a cup of juice or water once daily. When he was as young as grandson and became constipated the doctors would give him an infant enema. If he is extremely uncomfortable try that, but you should talk to his pediatrician to make sure there is no underlying problem. Don't put it off thinking it is a one time occurance. Are you sure that he is constipated? If he is breastfed, it is not abnormal to go for about a week without a bowel movement. My son did, and I worried, but it's just the way his body used the breast milk. If he is showing true signs of constipation, take him to the dr. first. Mirlax should not be given, nor any other stool softeners at this age.

Take him to the doctor! He should not be constipated and should definitely not be given Miralax.
