Mirena Vs. NuvaRing - Las Vegas,NV

I'm sorry that I can't speak to the NuvaRing, however I have good things to say about Mirena. I have had mine for 3 years. I got it while I was still breastfeeding before I started my period again after my daughter was born. I have yet to get my period at all over the past 3 years and I can't say that I miss it. I love not having to think at all about BC. I often forget that I have it and almost always forget to mention it at doctor's appointments when they ask me for the list of Rx I'm taking. It's like - oh yeah, I forgot about it. There are no copays and trips to the pharmacy. I had a rough experience when they put it in and had quite a bit of cramping and pain, however after that subsided, I have been very happy with it. I would definitely plan on getting it again after my next one when that time comes.

i just wanted to let you know that 1 in a 1000 will get a holein your uterus from the Mirena. i personally have to have surgery to get the IUD removed BC it is now in my abdomin wall. just to let you know...

I personally have only used the pill and the pulling out method and all 3 of my childrn were planned. I have heard some not so good things about IUD. it's not good to have forien objects in your body, Right now I have a young daycare mom who had a IUD put in 6 weeks after her baby was born, well her baby is 3 months old and she just found out she is pregnat, and the doctor can not get to the IUD cause it slipped furthur into her body, he can't even get to the string to pull it out, she said on the ultrasound it showed the IUD right next to the baby, this can not be healthy for the baby, because it's still birth control, I would weight out all the responses you get. The doctor won't advise against it cause he /she gets paid if you get one. J. L.

I love nuvaring. Praise God I've never suffered from any side affects. I'm not sure what a previous poster was referring to as I never had to insert the ring mid period. The only drawback I ever had was it popping out during sex. Didn't happen often, only when it was semi-wild monkey sex lol. Anyhoo, I was able to get pregnant very soon(2 mos) after stopping that form of bc. I don't like IUD type bc's as I need to feel like I'm partially in control.

I use the NuvaRing and love it. It works for me becuase I'm not able to remember to take my pill every morning, but the IUD seemed to permanent for me and my OB recommended trying the ring first and then if I wanted we could do the IUD.

Personally, it's not a big deal. I don't feel it and I forget it's there. On their webpage they have a timer you can download to your PC and it remind you when to take it out. It has helped my hellish periods and I only menstrate now for three to four days.

On the other hand, if you don't know when you want to try again or if then Mirena might be better. My friend has that and has for two years. They plan on having their second in a year and she'll take it out then.

I used the NuvaRing for about a year. At first I thought I LOVED it but then things changed. I started getting some of the side effects and I gained weight (for the first time in my life). I hadn't had a problem with my weight before so I didn't really notice until I had gained TWENTY pounds! The doctor at the time insisted it wasn't the ring, but there is no other reason for the gain. I stopped NuvaRing 2-1/2 years ago and now fluctuate btwn 5 lbs. so I know it was the BC that caused it.

Anyway, I am not a big fan of the IUD so I would definitely give the NuvaRing a chance just watch your body closely to be sure nothing crazy is happening. There is always some side effect that can happen with any BC you choose. I've heard a lot of other good things about the ring.

I used to be on the Nuva Ring and I loved it. However I ended up getting one of those annoying "common/mild side effects" - I was getting a yeast infection every other month. No fun. That's why I eventually stopped, but I was really sad because other than that I loved it! I would try it if I were you, because although it is a "common" side effect, it doesn't happen to everyone! It's worth a try ;)

While I can't speak to the Mirena, I really liked the NuvaRing when I used to use it! I only stopped using it because I have a reaction to BC Hormones. It was so much easier than the pill but it is a bit "messy" when you have to insert the ring (mid-period). I got over that part rather quickly though and just took it for what it was. Once inserted, I didn't even know it was there. Now, I wasn't sexually active back when I used it, so I can't speak to how it may play into your intimacy. My doc at the time said that one couple had it end up "on him" when when they were finished being intimate, but had a good chuckle about it. If you and your hubby have a good fun relationship, I doubt it would pose a problem for you. Best of luck!

So....I used NuvaRing too. I loved it, but I hate having to remember to take it out. I have a busy life and taking out nuvaring, and having to go to the pharmacy to get refills, is more thinking than I want to devote to birth control. I hate popping pills everyday too.....I can be an airhead about that. Also I HATE having my period.

So....I decided to switch to Mirena. With Mirena I wouldn't have to think about BC at all, and I heard that you RARELY or NEVER get your period. So, I got it put in. For me...the jury is still out on it. I have had my period CONSTANTLY since I had it put in (2 mo ago). According to the dr and the mirena insert, it is not uncommon for you to have a lot of bleeding during the first 3 to 6 mo. I knew that this was a side affect prior to getting it inserted, but I didn't think that I would have my period CONSTANTLY. I guess I will wait out the 6 mo, but it is really annoying. I don't know if I would have got it put in if I had known that I could have my period CONSTANTLY for 6 mo. The nurse also told me that for some women they will continue to bleed a lot after the first 6 mo. She said in that case, your body is rejecting it, and you should probably get it taken out.

The bottom line is....I don't know if I would still have gone thru with Mirena if I had known that I would REALLY have my period CONSTANTLY at first. But, now I have it in, and it was EXPENSIVE, so I will wait it out. I have insurance, so I only had to pay 65 dollars, but I think the total cost was something like 650. I guess that isn't much when you think that it lasts 5 years....but still.
If Mirena doesn't work out, I will probably switch to Nuvaring or Seasonique.

I have the Mirena and have had it for almost 4 years. I have had almost no problems. The only complaint is the odd spotting throughout the month. I do get a very light period, 2 pantiliners a day. The first 4 months I had a heavier spotting: 2days on 4 days off kind of thing. After having such heavy period before kids this is no big deal. Would I do it again? yes. I love not having to think about BC.
