Miscarriage - Irving,TX

Anyone who had a moscarriage, please would you describe how it looked like. My pregnancy has stopped at about 6-7 weeks and my doctor said I have 3 options: to wait when it happens naturally (which is a little risky because of waiting and keeping that stuff inside your body), take the pill and to have the surgery. She gave me a week to take the decision. I have been spotting for the last 2 days and cramping a little. Does it mean it may start like a period and miscarriage may happen naturally, or......it means I should go ahead and not lose time in scheduling the surgery.
thank you.

What can I do next?

I have not had a miscarriage myself but my sister in law thought she was also having one with the same symptoms. She was spotting and cramping and the doctor told her the same thing. HOWEVER, she actually had had a tubal pregnancy and when they finally figured that out she almost died. She was rushed to the hospital to have emergency surgery and ended up losing a tube. Please be careful! Make sure the doctor knows that it is truly a miscarriage!

I am so sorry for your loss! Hope you are doing OK!

I have never heard of a doctor prescribing a pill to extract tissue from a miscarriage. This is more of an early term abortion option. If it were me, I would wait until my body did it naturally. I had a miscarriage once, and my doctor said nothing of pills, and that I could safely carry the fetus for 90 days before there were any risks involved.

I had a miscarriage a long time ago and had to have a DNC. The only thing that helps you get past this is time and at least with the DNC you can start moving forward. It's basically a day procedure and you have to rest a bit following. I am RH-negative so it was even more important for me to deal with it quickly. I don't know if there's anything scientific to this but I felt with the medical procedure I was "cleaning out my system" which made me feel better about preparing for next time. Think of any questions you have, go over them with your DR and then make the decision you feel most comfortable with.

O. - I am so very, very sorry for your loss. It's really your choice about what you do and it may come down to just an emotional decision. I've had more than my share of miscarriages and all of them "feel" the same as they come on - just like a period of sorts, only a lot more cramping. You will know when you pass the pregnancy, as it will be a lot of mucusy looking globs intertwined with blood (sorry to be graphic) if possible, try to save it as your doctor may want to run tests. It is possible to have a few days of bleeding or spotting prior to this, and then you could have bleeding off and on for a few days after. But trust me, you'll know. You won't be able to keep yourself from looking for it. Don't wear a tampon, wear pads.

One time I had miscarriage that spontaneously aborted, and I elected not to have a D&C and pregnancy tissue continued to grow, causing me a lot of issues and heartache. So to that end, I, personally, think it's a good idea to have a D&C after your body passes the pregnancy.

Miscarrying is tough - please make sure you talk to your doctor about the emotional impact and if you are so inclined, don't hesitate to ask for some medications to help you through.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this difficult time. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need to. Good luck - S.

O., I am very sorry for your loss. I had a miscarriage once that happened naturally, at about 6 weeks. But I had another that was a Missed Miscarriage and only a D&C was going to end this. The baby had passed for a couple of weeks before we even knew anything was happening. It does sound like with your cramping and spotting, it might start naturally. What ever you feel is the right thing to do.....it's hard, I know! Let me know if you have any other questions or just need to talk. You can send me an email.

Hi O.,

I am so sorry that you are going through this. I had a miscarriage in January at about 5-6 weeks. My doctor wanted me to let it happen naturally and not have a DNC. It was difficult for me because everyday was a physical reminder of what I was already dealing with emotionally. It continued and lasted about 2 weeks until the bleeding was completely done. As far as what it looked like, it was a greyish mass with the obvious bleeding. I advise you to talk to your doctor and the two of you decide what is best for your situation. Either way it is hard, and you have to do what you are comfortable with. God Bless you.

C.

O.,

as stated in your previous post yesterday, I miscarried twins last year, they were blighted ovums and just simply didn't continue to develop. It was a surprise to us since I hadn't bled or anything and my sterotype back then of all miscarriages was bleeding out. One risk of letting things go naturally is that you can possibly bleed to death. I hoenstly beleive the surgery is the best way to go so you can get past this and on with your life. Neither of the three options are going to make it any easier for you emotionally, a loss is a loss and it's a horrible thing we have to go through. But wouldn't you rather get it out now and over with rather than continuing on for weeks wondering...The surgery is a day thing, you'll go in early in the morning and then you'll be out that afternoon. After a couple days you'll experience some cramping and bleeding. But the surgery itself, you'll be out for and won't feel any effects from it specifically.

Good luck with your decision!

-Char
