Missed Period, 2 Negative Tests

I have been getting my period like clockwork since my two-year old was 10 months. I am still breast feeding twice a day ( I know, I am weaning slowly :-)). I did not get my period and I have taken two prego tests and both were negative. I am under no more stress than usual. What could be going on? I had really bad lower back pain + cramps and then nothing.
I have no pregancy symptom except moodiness which could be acute PMS. Anyone else ever have this experience?

So What Happened?

Thank you for your advice. I got my period yesterday. I found out I have a low functioning thyroid which probably explains the hormononal imbalance and some other symptoms I have since the birth of my son. Thanks to you all.

Well a couple of things:

I didn't get my period for about 13 months after Evan was born. It has yet to become regular again, so personally I went on a low estrogen birth-control pill and didn't get it at ALL. I went off of that for a month and it returned.

But my doctor attributed my non-period to stress of my son's surgery and just daily life. I would have a frank conversation with my doctor about everything going on with you.

Don't worry about extended breastfeeding -- if you and your child are still enjoying the experience then it's between the two of you and no one else :)

I had a couple of negative tests early on, when I was pregnant. The hormone just isn't at a high enough level yet.

You can get 2 blood tests from your doc that can tell for sure. The first to set the level of the hormone and the second to see whether it's increasing. That's how I confirmed that I was pregnant with #2.

If you wait long enough, you'll know for sure, lol. So much good luck to you.

I had 3 neg tests when I was pregnant with my first born. Could still be pregnant. See your doctor and get a blood test or ultrasound to be sure. You could also have a missed pregnancy... aka. egg attached but isn't developing.

I was like clockwork my whole life then when I turned 36, my periods went whacky & as time passed got whackier. I am going to be 50 in a couple months & it has been nearly a year since I had a period. My doc said it is the normal process. You could be at the onset of perimenopause but you are still able to conceive.

It could be a lot of things but I would go to my Dr. to check it out. I took two pregnancy tests with my son that came out negative, and when he was 15 months old I was really late and thought I might be pregnant. It turned out that I was just late for whatever reason. My OB/GYN thought that I probably was in the beginning of perimenopause.
Good luck!

The same thing has been happening to me. My periods have been regular since I was 12, with the exception of my two pregnancies. So when my period didn't show up in August, I thought I was pregnant. I took three pregnancy tests from three different companys and they all were negative over the course of three weeks. My period came early September, then again two weeks later. Then missed all of October and then just showed up again a few days ago. So, I went to the doctor, thinking there has got to be something happening with my system. She just said bodies change and I shouldn't worry about it and that it will probably adjust itself out in a few months. The only sucky thing with me is that we are trying to have more kids, and this "change" is really not helping any.

I hope this helped you. :o)

I hope this helps

Could be perimenopause.. could be your body adjusting to the reduction in nursing (which by the way you should feel under NO pressure to stop unless YOU want to. There is NO cut-off and the longer you nurse the better your kid will be healthwise) How far behind are you in your cycle? It sometimes takes about 2-3 weeks for the pregnancy hormones to appear...

Just go to your OB/GYN to check it out.

I actually had this problem as well. It seemed as soon as I started to try to get pregnant, my periods began to become somewhat irregular. They became late or early depending on the month. I was definitely having much more pronounced PMS as well and when I did have my periods, they were super heavy. Before that, my situation was very similar to yours, they were like clockwork starting just about when my daughter turned 1.

I was also still nursing. I'm a bit older than you, 6 years to be exact. When I finally went to my OB, because we weren't getting pregnant, he blamed it on my nursing (only about twice a day as well), although I could swear I was ovulating fine, as I know my body pretty well. Anyway, if you're concerned, I'd check in with your OB.

We eventually did IUI and I'm now 17 weeks pregnant.

Good luck :-)
