So What Happened?

I made an appointment with his doctor and she was able to talk my son into freezing them. "That it would hurt just like an ant bite." He laid quite still for the two on his neck. Then she asked if he could shut his eyes so she could freeze the one between his eyebrows and he said no! She did her magic and sure enough he was able to endure the sting. His doctor wasn't able to do the fourth and last one in his eyebrows. It's been 5 days and the two in his neck are literally gone. The one between his brows is starting to fall off.

My son returns to school on Monday from being off track almost a whole month. And I'm gleaming with joy that he will be returning without having to hide them.

Thank you all for your replies, it convinced me that something could be done. And now he is almost molluscum free!!

Quantum Touch or EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) are 2 great alternative healing methods that are completely non-invasive. I see that you are in Sacramento, so I could do a couple of sessions and we would see what happens. Having to cover these up is also taxing on the immune system, because the body won't know what is really something to run away from if it is running away from itself. The fight or flight system gets put out of whack when we give the body signals like this, then it thinks every little thing is a threat. Best to use loving techniques to sooth the body into knowing it is safe, and when it gets those signals on a regular basis, it can tell which side is up.

I am sending a distance healing session right now to all the kids who have it on this list.

We battled this too. I read everyone elses response and we ordered Zymaderm for my 10 year old last year. He had it on his legs, it does work but takes time and dedication. My neice was only 1 and had it all over her body I gave her Mother a bottle and we started seeing results right away. However it does take about a month and lots of bathing. I beleive my son caught it in Disneyland at the pool. My neice was always sick and we think she got it at the doctors office. Apple cider vinegar dabed on will help but you still need the Zymaderm. Good Luck and Best Wishes

My daughter had these when she was three. I don't know if it was a cure or not, but I used tea tree oil 3 or 4 times a day. I don't remember her having them longer than about 3 weeks.

Hi D.,
Well I have had this in my home for years. Started with one child and kept spreading. It is very contagious. It spreads when they scratch it, then touch others or get in the same water. My doc said let it go and it will go away on its own. In one severe case for my son he prescribed retina A. It was in his eczema, so there was no way he wasn't going to scratch it. This worked within a month. The other kids, it took months to go away.
I am a picker by nature so when it got a big head on it, I would open it up take out the wart and then cover it with triple antibiotic and a bandaid. Important to wash well and keep in covered so you don't get it and they don't get more.
And yes adults do get it. I have three. Two are gone and the third I am waiting to come to a head. Good Luck.

Hi!
Both my daughters got molluscum from a pool - a kind with many little dots all over their bodies. We tried the Silver Cure and it worked great. Easy and safe to use and much faster results than the medicin from the dermatologist. If your search on molluscum silver cure you will find it. Good Luck.

D. and others - based on the internet reading the scraping that is being recommended does not solve the problem. It basically just removes that lesions but is still able to spread on the host and to others. Check into alternative treatments and medications, hopefully they will be covered by your insurance.

Molluscum is horrible! My daughter got it when she was 6 and it seriously took 2 years for it to clear up - we've been free from it since last August.

We went to a dermatologist who prescribed Condylox. It works great but it is very painful and irritating. My daughter also has bad eczema so the meds would only irritate her more. But we would use the Rx in 2 day intervals so that the meds had a chance to work. The spots were also located below her armpit so the rubbing of clothing, etc, made it extra painful.

You could have them "dug" out but that can leave scarring. My daughter does have scars from the molluscum but they are small and hopefully will go away over time. My best advice would be to get the medication and see how your son tollerates it. If you can get the bumps to go away he should only have a flare-up occassionally, in which case you use the meds again. But so far, we have been spot free since the 2 yr mark!

Good luck to you...

Hi, I just joined mamasource and would like to share my most recent experience with molluscum or water wart. I'm currently in the Philippines but my 16 months old daughter and I will be joining my husband very soon in Dublin. Last Tuesday we visited a pediatric dematologist to have a 2nd opinion on those pesky water warts. Angel started having them when she was only 6 mos. old but our pedia said that those were just irritations caused by her saliva as she was teething at that time. It actually went away but was replaced by first a couple of spots, and then now she has several she even has one on her tummy. So we decided to go to a derma and she told us that it is molloscum or water wart common in children. She said for some it eventually goes away without intervention but since it has been more than a year for my little Angel we have to do something to prevent it from multiplying. She suggested two methods. The first is using a cream but the success rate is only 30%-40%. The other one is scraping...yes very barbaric but she said it's the only way we can remove the warts on her face. She said the youngest patient that she had was an 8 month old baby. However she said that there is an ointment available but doctors in the States only use it on the body (neck down actually). She said it is contagious but only to children, and can only be passed on through skin to skin contact. Adults are safe. So I agreed to the scraping, with topical anesthesia ofcourse, because most of the warts are on her face. She has a around 25-30 warts on her face and neck. She wasn't able to remove all because Angel was already crying and struggling to get up. I apply bactroban 2x a day so as to avoid scarring.

Her wounds are healing, unfortunately I completely forgot to tell the derma about the ones on her fingers. So now I will try rubbing alcohol on them. I hope it will work for her. I really am lucky to have joined this group. Thanks so much for the advices.

hi... just to ease your mind... there is NOTHING wrong with your child's immune system...it is not weak nor does it need to be "strengthened".. molluscum is a virus that your son's immune system (like MANY other people's immune system) does not recognize molluscum as something to attack.. and it doesn't really need to biologically speaking... molluscum is an infectious condition but so is warts... it is more of a cosmetic issue from a medical perspective... (ie your child's health will not be affected by the virus)... that being said i still believe in treating it... go to a pediatric dermatologist... there are many non surgical, non scarring treatments... best.

Wow, I am soooo glad I saw this post, both of my daughters had this exact same thing!! I took my oldest to the doctor, but was told that the only way to remove the bumps would be to burn them off....not happening! I wasn't even told the name of the "bump", we were told that is was in the same family as warts...none the less, my in-laws took my daughter to the local pharmacist who did give us a topical ointment to apply, that did make the bumps go away after time, then my second daughter got them. All the responses I have seen have helped so much & answered the questions I had. Good luck with treatment for your son!

Hi D.,
I just found a site "SilverCure" that has some amazing testimonials for getting rid of molluscum. There are before and after photos and even videos of children who have been cured. The doctor who invented this also invented the thermometer you put in childrens ears for quick painless temp measurements.
I hope this helps.
Blessings,
D.

Hi D.,

My daughter had mollescum last summer. We tried something we bought over the internet called Mollescum Silver. It came in a combination pack of ointment, soap, and spray. It was pretty pricey.

It seemed to help contain it but it didn't make it go away. Then, out of desperation because nothing else worked, I bought a tube of zinc oxide cream (the same stuff lifeguards put on their noses). It seemed to do the trick. They spots (on her knees, shoulders, elbows, neck & face) seemed to clear up in just a short while. If you read the label on the box, it says it's for weeping diseases such as poison oak & poison ivy. It dries up the sores. It worked for us and it was a heck of a lot cheaper ($1.74 or so) than the stuff we ordered on-line. We bought the zinc oxide at Wal-Mart near all of the first aid ointments, but I'm sure all drug stores, Target, etc have it as well. Good luck!

Strengthen his immune system is the first step. There are many safe OTC products to help build immune system appropriate and effective response. Australian lemon myrtle essential oil (in solution) has been shown to help:

"A 2004 study demonstrated over 90% reduction in the number of lesions in 9 out of 16 children treated with 10% strength solution of essential oil of Australian lemon myrtle" quoted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molluscum_contagiosum

Be aware that molluscum is a contagious virus. It can spread, and can be transmitted to you, playmates, etc. Use appropriate precautions and careful hygiene as the article explains.

Be well,
CB

I had never heard of this before, and it's come up on this list twice this week, so I thought I would google and see what it is all about. There are several natural remedies listed on Wikipedia, obviously, this is not an authoritative source, but might be a good place to start and then do additional research to see which of the suggested remedies are legitimate.

A pediatric dermatologist will get rid of the MC for your child. It is very contagious and will continue to spread if not treated. It can be removed by the doctor with a toothpick (I am a nurse and have seen a doctor do this with multiple lesions--they did not return on the patient), but they must be removed. Take precautions at home to prevent its spread to you.

Hi, My 7 yr. old daughter has battled this also. First having some froze and of course they scarred but luckily are under her arm. Then she had some come back and then one spot on her stomach. We tried dabbing them with an alcohol swab and it worked. It dried them up within a day or 2 and has only had one come back since and we did the alcohol again and it went away before they get to the stage where they will spread. Good Luck!

Hello, my son also has malloscum. He is now 19 months and has had it for 2 months. Our doctor has been treating it with a medication that causes the bumps to blister, pop and heal. It has worked for him. We go to the doctor often but like I said it seems to be working. When I first found out that he had it I freaked out...was on the net trying to find out why, where and how we could treat it. Since I have calmed down and understand that it is a virus and it WILL go away I am better and so it he. My friend's son also has it, however the boys have never been around each other...just a coinsidence. He doctor is treating it different with a cream and it also seems to be working. My son has it on his arms and legs. Just wash everything often, wash your hands and be aware. I did get a couple on my hand...proably from changing diapers or giving him a bath. But, the doc treated them the same way and now they are blistered and healing. Best of luck.

I can't really call it advice, because I just started trying it myself this week. My 5 year old has one on her jawbone next to her ear. Her docotor just said to clean it twice a day with rubbing alcohol and that it would eventually fall off. We've only been doing it a couple days so far, but hey, it's worth a shot.

I don't know of any home remedies, but they do have a prescription that seems to work. Unfortunately, my sons keeps coming back. A little less each time. We dab the spot and within a day or two it's "dried" up and gone.
