I have ants in my house, mainly in the kitchen. They are referred to as sweet ants and/or sugar ants. I bought something that helps but the ants come back days later. Anyone have any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Taro. Not to expensive,$4-6. Works great for sugar and ghost type ants. It actually got rid of all the ants in the house.

I have heard of using grits, sprinkle out the raw cereal around the outside of your house (if you can track down where they are coming from even better) and when they eat it the grits expands in their stomach and they die. Safer than poisonous chemicals.

Also try to caulk off any areas where they are coming in from. My kids tracked them down to a tiny crack in the grout of our tile floor and a crack in the caulking on the bottom of the door. I used the grits, closed off the cracks and washed my floors with bleach/water a few times, they were gone and have not come back since. Plus the kids had a great time tracking down the ants and sprinkling the grits!

Have fun!

YES!!! I FINALLY found a do-it-yourself remedy that works on those darn critters! Actually, a nice man that was pest control for another house told me about it because I didn't want to pay for a pest control service. Anyway,I'll get to the good part, it's called Terro. I got mine at Target. It comes in a 6 pack of little clear traps, but initially, you will see more ants. That is because they make a b-line to the sweet but deadly bait in the traps and then they carry it back to their nests, wherever those are hiding and the bait kills the nests. Then soon, about after a day or so, you will start seeing fewer and fewer ants. You will some feeding in the traps but eventually they will all be gone. When the fluid is gone from your containers, replace them once more in the same areas that you put them. Leave them there for a little while, then when you think your problem ants are gone. Throw them away. It recommends you put them out every 3 months to for prevention control. Good luck!

Hi, I have the same problem. I have Orkin come out and it seems to be working. They are hypoallergenic and odor free and fairly inexpensive.

Good Luck.

Hi N.,
You might want to try spraying vinegar around the area that you see them. It is non toxic and shouldn't hurt anything. Also I have heard something about a wrapped peppermint candy that they don't like the smell of peppermint or something. I haven't had an ant problem so I am not sure if any of this stuff works, but it is stuff that I have heard does. Good luck!

I had ants in my kitchen too and it was terrible. My friend told me about Taro. It comes in a orange box and the only place I found it was Target. You can buy it in a bottle I believe but I buy it in a box that has little packs that you break apart and cut open and leave on your counter and it works! I have several friends who now use it and swear by it!

Hope it helps!

I never thought I would be able to get rid of all the sugar ants out of my kitchen, until my neighbor told me about this stuff called Terro. You can find Terro in either the garden center of a walmart. It comes in a little orange box. It gives you these little cards to rip off the box and you put one little drop of the Terro (which is like a gel) on the piece of carboard and watch them go to town. The ants love it, but most importantly they take it back to all the other ants and mine dissappeared after a matter of a day or so. Then I bleached and cleaned where their trails were and I have seen no more in my house! Give it a try... it worked for me!

This may sound silly but, it really worked for me. Slice a cucumber and rub it on their tracks (Where they are walking back and forth) and leave a piece where they are coming in (like a window sill corner) but, make sure it is actually where they are moving. Honestly, this worked for me.

N., We had a similar problem a few years ago. First of all, set your bait just outsideyour doors and windows, it draws the ants out instead of drawing them into your home. Also, our pest control guy said they are actually not looking for sweets, but water so try to keep things as dry as possible.
I know what a pain they are, Good Luck!
