I have a friend coming in town (Northern VA area). She will be away from her baby and staying with me and my son - just for the weekend. WE WANT TO GO OUT!. Obviously want to avoid overcrowded bars with 21yo music and don't just want to go to any old bar and drink when we can do that at home, or spend big bucks on just dinner out. We want to dance. Tried to look into two AWESOME 80's bands (Legwarmers and Reflex)but BOTH have private shows that night. Any suggestions? Anyone know of another local band/bar that plays 80's music and wouldn't be insane for two former partiers gone mom. We are both from the midwest and I haven't lived here long enough to know the local places. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for your suggestions. We ended up squeezing Friday night into the plans so that we could see the Reflex at Ned Devines in Centreville. And although it was a bit crowded and smokey (hate that) - we had an AWESOME time. Great music. Drank a few beers and danced. Thought there was no way we would even make it to midnight but closed the place down bc the music was so good. Ya it was a bit crowded but after a beer or two you deal with it. Plus I ran into a girl from work. So now I have a new friend to go with if I decide I want to go hear them again! Thanks so much for all of your help! Of course still had to get up with the baby at 7:30am but my husband was a great help with that!

Hi! I'm from the midwest, too, although I've lived in NOVA for 10 years now. A fun place that we love to go is Dave & Busters. It isn't the closest place, but in my opinion, well worth the drive! You can have dinner, drinks, and play games (think "Chuck E Cheese for adults"!). Another option, if you're looking to just catch up over good food and drinks (more mellow mood), would be the Melting Pot Fondue restaurant. Or if you like shooting pool over a few beers, then Carpool might be the place to go. You can do a google search on any of these places and find the location that fits you best. I know D&B's is in Maryland (Flint Mall or something like that), but the Melting Pot and Carpool have a couple of different locations in the NOVA area.
Good luck and have fun!

I don't get out much either, but I have heard that Decades is awesome. Is it still there?

Maybe check the citypaper?

Hi A.,

I've got a few suggestions. I'm also a 31 year old mom, but I'm a NOVA native. I too love to dance, and I go out usually once or twice a month with my friends. We like to hit up Clarendon Grill (www.cgrill.com), Rumors (19th & M St., NW), Porters (across the street from Rumors), and Car Pool (Ballston). Rumors is my favorite. They play a decent mix of music (plenty of 80's thrown in to the mix on any given night). Hope you guys find a place you like and have a great time!

C.
