Mom's Group in the Northland Area

If you're in the North Kansas City School District, you should go to their website and look up the Parents as Teachers (PAT) Program. Among other great activities and benefits (funded through the school district so no additional cost to you besides paying your taxes), they have a playgroup program where moms & their kids meet twice a month at the early education building in Pleasant Valley. The room has rocking chairs for moms and tons of toys & books with which the kids can play.
The mid-continent library system in the Northland also have quite a few activities for young children as well as weekly storytimes usually followed by a craft activity.
And there's a group called mommy & me that meets at a church somewhere on Vivion Rd. They have tons of social activities and opportunities for playgroups. I don't know where they hold playgroups though. I think the cost of membership is pretty low. I'm pretty sure there is a mommy & me website to get more info.
The Zona Rosa Shopping Center has a small indoor play area where the food court used to be "under" the Marshall's store. And some moms go to the Metro North Shopping Mall and let their kids run around the "blue carpeted area" near the big water fountain with the hot air balloons that go up & down. It is located on the first level. It's best to go through JCPenney to get there. The mall is losing a lot of stores and many of their "snack & food" places but it's better than nothing.

I have a 2.5 yr old son and 6 year old daughter. I've been in KC for almost 9 years. Maybe we'll see ya around town.

You can type in your zip code or city and the ones closest to you should come up. I am in Mommy and Me and we have a great group. I know there is a MOPS group that meets somewhere here in the northland...my 1st baby isn't due until May so I'm not in a moms group yet, but I have some friends who are involved, so I emailed this page to them. If you haven't found a church yet, and you know where 72nd and North Prospect are, there's a church across from Hy-Vee that would gladly welcome you and your young one. If she can stand being seperated, she could be in my SS class. I teach usually 4-8, but I could make an exception. My church is Gladstone Baptist Church 7102 N. Prospect Gladstone, MO. I'm a grandmother myself but all but 1 God-grandson, are grown now so I really enjoy teaching the little 1's. The Pastor's wife is my assistant. My Name is P. Hi C.. Try checking out meetup.com there are several mom's groups on there. Several require a yearly fee if you decide to join but most are only $10 a year. It is free to register on myspace to check it out. There is also another liberty group I know of on another website. If you are interested in that group let me know and I'll get you some more info on that group. Personally I live in the Northland also so if you ever need ideas of things to do I may have a few.

I am in the Northland too and I have our youngest, who is three, enrolled in Parents as Teachers. It is free to the residents (ok not free at all....our taxes pay for it so you should take advantage of the program) and they offer several things to do throughout the month. I have been here for about four or five years and have found it extemely difficult to meet people. There is a little brochure callered Mother & Child Reunion that list several groups. Local schools and The Parents as teachers, grocery stores and restaraunts have the brochures. Good Luck. Where are you from?
