Mommies over 35 Please Help. What Skin Care Regimen Do You Use?

Up until I hit 35, I used to have great skin. However when I got pregnant, I had a few outbreaks. I therefore started using Proactive and it was great until...

A few months ago, I stopped using it. Then my skin took a turn for the worse. At first, I was getting a new pimple just about everyday. It has calmed down a little now, but I still get a pimple about every 3 days. So now at 39, I feel like a teenager again. But not in a good way. I am now that wallflower in the corner with an acne problem.

So mommas help me out. Please tell me what skincare products have worked for you? And please tell me your skincare regimen. Thanks.

L., The SAME THING happened to me! Few skin problems until pregnancies and my skin has never been the same. I am 38 now and kids are 6,5, and 1. I have found incredible relief from breakouts using the Arbonne line. I have used their entire acne line, Clear Advantage, then once my skin cleared up and stablized, I switched to the new FC5 line for normal/oily combo (wash/toner in one, day lotion, and eye cream) and keep the Clean Advantage "spot treatment" on hand for the now less frequent breakouts. It is AMAZING and clears even deep "spots" up in a day or two without drying. I do love the supplement too b/c it treats skin problems from the inside out too! If you are have questions or are interested, feel free to call me as I am an Arbonne rep too! My # is: ###-###-#### or view at: www.gwenhalsey.myarbonne.com, click SHOP ONLINE then acne or Clear Advantage. There is a 45 day money back guarantee so worth a try! I am very glad that I did (and my face is too!). Hope this helps!

L., I went through the same thing around that age and thought it was acne. After a couple years of trying a bunch of different products I finally went to the dermatologist. And it was not acne, it was rosacea, therefore I wasted two years with the wrong products. before you try anything else I suggest you consult a dermatologist and clarify your skin condition. If you use the wrong product it will only irritate your skin even more. Hope this is helpful.

Hey,
A friend of mine is having the same problem and has purchased the acne treatment line by Dr. Murad. You could look it up online. She says they also sell Murad at Ulta, but I don't know if they have the "Acne Program". Her skin has all cleared up. It's not cheap, but it does work. Avon also has a skin care treatment that is said to be comparable to Proactiv. I haven't tried it, but if you are interested (it is cheaper), let me know. Good luck!

My skin was horrible during college when I was constantly stressed out. I used Proactiv for awhile, but it never really helped. I used Neutrogena face wash (not the acne kind), and it helped clear up the blemishes, but it tended to dry out my skin. I used to use Aveeno Radiant Skin with exfoliation beads, and it helped lighten my acne scars over time, but I found that it made my skin too sensitive.

Now, my skin is clear and never breaks out, even when I was pregnant. My routine, which I've had for about 4 years now is this: Wash face in the morning and evening with Free & Clear cleanser. Moisturize with Cetaphil daily moisturizer. That's it! Keeps the pimples and the eczema away also. I also use Mineral powder makeup, which really keeps my face from getting oily. I'm 34, but many people tell me that I look 20-something. It's so simple, but it works for me. I have combination dry and oily skin if that helps. Good luck!

P.S., I did go through a stressful time before I was pregnant due to a heavy workload, and I'd get occasional pimples. I used tea tree oil mixed with my daily lotion to spot treat, and the pimples would usually be gone in one day. A little goes a long way! Be careful not to mix too much tea tree or else it will dry out your skin.

I'm 36 & I've had acne prone skin my WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE--so being a "wallflower", I've lived that one;^)
I'm with all of the other ladies that use Mary Kay. It's a quick regimen for both day & night and the products last anywhere from 4-6 months. My skin hasn't felt this smooth since I was a baby--SERIOUSLY!! I have't used it for long, just about a month or so. I can tell you this--I will be a Mary Kay customer for a very long time to come.
I can't use all of the other products that I've tried in the past because NONE of those things worked & that's money down the drain after years of looking for that perfect "product". I even mixed different brands of products & apparently that's a NO NO cause it does even more damage to your skin. Please contact one of the ladies about their products--you won't be sorry & they also have a money back guarantee :)

Hi L., Avon has a skin regime that is the equivilant of Proactive but half the cost. It is great for your problem which is probably based on hormones at this time. Also we have a line of skin care products designed for different age groups that rivals department store items at a fraction of the cost. AT your age you could look into the Anew alternative line. If you don't have access to an avon book, please go to my website www.youravon.com/janwaller and look at the products available. You can purchase on line and have it shipped directly to you.

I use the Arbonne anti-aging line. At first I started using the whole line (which is expensive), but I couldn't believe the results. In just a few days, a brown spot on my cheek (a got it when I got pregnant and it never went away) starting to disappear and my pores got smaller. It was amazing. And the products are all natural botanicals, nothing toxic, so I felt good about using them. After several weeks, I got tired of the routine and I started just using the gelee wash, and I continued seeing the results just from the wash. When it ran out, I didn't buy more, thinking that I could go back to soap and water. Within a couple of weeks, the brown spot started coming back. So I started just using the gelee wash again, and I got the same great results I got before. So now I just use the gelee wash twice a day in the shower, and my skin looks and feels so much better. (And I don't sell this stuff, so I'm not trying to get you business. I just love what it did for my skin!)
Good luck with whatever you try.

Why not just stay on the Proactive? You didn't mention a reason for going off of it. If it's financial, my sister has had good luck with Betadine cleanser which is only about $6 a bottle. I also know people that swear by Jurlique products for post-pregnancy acne but I think it's pretty pricey.

Hi L.,

Skin care products are okay and I do use a special, non-toxic routine every day however, skincare is more about what we put in our bodies than what we put on the outside. Nutrition is important. Removing the toxins from our bodies is important. And a good strong immune system is important as well.

Let me know if you'd like more information. I try to spread the word on these things that it took me years to figure out... and stick to it :)

M.
