Mommy with C Diff and Primary Care Taker

So after a kidney infection treated with a heavy duty antibiotic now i have c diff. Not sure why the doctor prescribed it but too late now to question. I am a stay at home Mom. While sick I had a babysitter come during the day. I was so ill I could not care for him myself. Found out three days later, it was the weekend, that it was c diff. I bleached the tub before my baby's bath. I wash my hands religiously after using the bathroom.
Prior to being symptomatic my son had a bad cold and was given a antacid to lessen the vomiting from all the post-nasal drip. So that made him more susceptible to getting c diff. I bleached the entire bathroom once well enough to do so. But all my hand washing and cleaning seems to not have helped. Even with limiting exposure to my son didn't help. It seems it did pass to him despite my best efforts.
I can't find any information on how contagious it is person to person. Only that it is. And I find very little posts on anyone who had it actually spread to their child. Both me and my son were and are on probiotics. He even has yogurt, and quite a lot for his size.
So now to my question. Has anyone else experienced this? Any help on what to do with all my sons clothes and toys as far as cleaning? Literally every inch of every item goes in his mouth. Help! Suggestions?!
It is a serious illness. It can lead to hospitalization and unchecked colon cancer. My gastroenterologist made sure I knew that this is a no joke illness. Its not a cold or stomach virus. Despite my precautions it still spread to him so that's concerning and I have no idea how it crossed to him. Again I was so sick I could not care for him. Going to the bathroom 8 times a day and unable to actually keep food in long enough to get nourishment left me very incapacitated. So if someone got through this and has advice I would appreciate it.
I’ve read that only bleach kills the bacteria. I read a lot but nothing first hand. It would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

Does he actually have it? My friend had it and didn't pass it to anyone in her home. I think that you might be over reacting. Just clean once and then move on. Are you on Flagyl? Another antibiotic? Flagyl's the usual med for it. Once you are on it for a day or two you are no longer contagious. So if you son doesn't in fact have it (does he have green diarrhea??) then he probably never will. Good luck and feel better.

How long have you been on meds? You should be getting over it by now.

I am confused. Your son has had it numerous times in ten months? You have it. I assume you are being treated for it. Have you had a follow up culture to see if you are still, positive? If not, when are you due to have one done. Is your son being treated too. I would hope so. Your post is a bit confusing to me.

My sister was dying of cancer. She had c. Diff. I was with her everyday the last six weeks of her life. I crawled in bed with her every day. Was very careful about washing hands. I never got it.

You may want to have your son seen by an infectious disease doctor.

My niece was recently hospitalized with c-diff, and it scared the begesus out of my SIL (and my brother, but mostly my SIL). She started behaving just like you, wanting to bleach everything and sanitize everything.

I don't know exactly how contagious it is, just that it is contagious. I do know that neither my brother, nor my SIL nor my other niece got sick. Just the one niece.

C-diff is a bit scarier than other illnesses. However, you really need to relax about the cleaning. Probiotics and yogurt are great! Beyond that, your little guy NEEDS to be exposed to germs. That's the only way his body will ever build up immunities. Too much cleaning will ultimately make him more susceptible to getting sick, as his own immune system will not be fully developed.

Talk to your doctor and try to get some more specific information. You do need to be careful for a time after the illness has passed. But you don't want prevent your little guy for being exposed to germs.

I could be wrong, but I don't think germs can live on clothes (fabric). Germs can't even really live on plastic for long. Wash the clothes and wipe down the toys with a Clorox wipe. That's about all you can/should do.

Well, the UK NHS (National Health Service) has some good information pages on stopping germs from spreading via fabric items (and yes, they can be spread via fabric)

My nephew had c diff years ago when he was a baby. No one else in the household got it. Find yourself a holistic dr, naturopath etc. My nephew's was cured with olive leaf extract and some other supplements. I can't remember what else now. No antibiotics that, as you know, can do more harm than good. Our chiropractor was the one who put him on the regimen. If you are interested I can give you his information and maybe they can even do a phone consult and tell you what supplements you need. It's worth a try. My sister went through hell with it recurring until she saw the chiro.

I would probably ask my doctor or my sons pediatrician about it.
He HAS been seen by his pediatrician, right?
His pediatrician will give you accurate information.
I'm surprised He/she hasn't already.
Good luck!

It's hard to tell from your post whether or not your son has also been diagnosed with c. diff - does he have it or not? Do you still have it or has your case cleared?

I think if you can clarify a bit more about what your current status and his current status are, you may get more helpful answers.

C. diff is serious, of course, but most people who are otherwise healthy recover just fine. It's those who are already immunocompromised (the elderly, cancer patients, people in hospitals recovering from other illness or surgeries, etc.) are the ones who have to worry about it coming back more than an average young, otherwise healthy person.

I'm not sure what you're so concerned about. Did your kiddo get it from you? I can't tell. If he did, yeah it stinks, but you should both be on medication and be ok in a few days. Most healthy people recover without complications.

Have you done anything you boost your own immune system and his? Probiotics are helpful in some people but quite limited. They are doing so much work in nutritional epigenetics as well as digestive health, with great clinical studies on prevention of cancer (including stopping the spread of colon cancer, which you name specifically). There's also a tremendous amount of work on absorbable nutrition used for people undergoing chemo and radiation for cancer, so it's completely safe and also shows great results. If I can provide that info for you, let me know. Between this infection and your son's cold (and the drip causing nausea/vomiting), this would make such a difference for you both.

There is a medicine that you can take to help prevent getting it. The doc. should have had you get some for your son.

I'm not sure what can be done now other than follow doctors orders, stay hydrated, keep cleaning everything.
