I am moving to Topeka this summer. I have a 4th grader, a 4 year old and will be 8 months pregnant when we move. I am looking for recommendations on elementary school, preschool and a good OB/GYN. Any information will be helpful!!!! Thank you!!!
Community preschool in Topeka is great, my daughter went there last year and we had nothing but great experiences there! Also I recommend Topeka Obgyn offices, there doctors and midwifes are wonderful,however I think they are very busy and sometimes there can be a bit of a wait, but is is well worth it. Good luck!
As for the OBGYN I use to see Dr.Dallas Thompson Topeka OBGYN and associates 634 SW Mulvane ###-###-#### but he has moved his entire office staff is wonderful I plan to see DR.EDDs he is great he delivered my son and is very caring and knowlegable he is a male DR. though.
I have lived in Topeka for 14yrs. I have a 13yr old, 11 yr old, 5 1/2 yr old, and almost 2yr old. I have not have good experiences with 501 schools, they do not know how to handle boys whom are bored because they finish their assigned class work, they just like to send them home on suspension after disipline referrals. I find sending them home unacceptable because they like not having to go to school. It doesnt teach them to behave. My middle son has not had any of these problems. He has seen what my older son has gone thru and takes extra care to stay away from trouble. It seems once they get into a little scuffle (boys do) they tag the child. I know of other parents whom have experienced this with 501. We now live in the Shawnee Heights area SE side of town (Croco rd, Rice rd, 6th st area) and we have heard many parents rave about the school district. We are excited to be sending our children to these schools.
My OB/GYN is Dr B Edds and has been the whole 14yrs he is wonderful and caring tel# ###-###-#### loc at 634 Mulvane, they also have another office in the Urish & 29th area. Good luck on your move. GOD BLESS

We moved to Topeka 5 years ago, and we live in the Washburn/Rural School District, and Love it! Great Elementary Schools, and Great and Caring Teachers! Plus they are also building a New Elementary school, to open next year in the fall, that will have a Brand New Pre School also. The school is being built 29th and Urish Area, so I am not sure where you will be living in Topeka, but every Elementary school is Great, our kids went to Indian Hills Elementary, and also Pauline South (Love the principal of that school, he is AWESOME! Mr. Holman) He gets to know every child individually, and truly cares about each child. I honestly have not heard one bad comment on any of the schools in Washburn Rural, They have a really good reputation!C. F./____@____.com
I don't really know about schools (my daughter is 2), but I highly recommend the Birth and Women's Center. It is a freestanding birth clinic and so much more comfortable and calm than a hospital. They do complete prenatal, labor and delivery, and postpartum care. The website is www.topekabirthcenter.com

And last, but not least, if you are planning to breastfeed, Topeka has a La Leche League group that holds morning and evening meetings every month. You can look it up through www.llli.org. It's under something like 'find a group in your area'
