How long did it take for your period to become regular again after you stopped nursing?
I nursed my son for 12 months and have only had two periods which one was in may and one in june.

What can I do next?

2 weeks after I stopped bleeding from the birth was my first period. Then copper IUD insertion, and like clockwork since. Which, for me is kinda crazy, since I had *never* had regular periods prior. (exclusively breastfed until 9.5 months... started solids at 1yo).

Mine came back at 5 months and 8 months for my two kids. I am about to have baby #3 and hoping for longer this time.

I started mine after about 7-8 months of nursing and I nursed 12 months too so you got a longer reprieve. :o)

The entire 13 months I breastfed I had my period every 28 days; I wish it would have taken a break.

The 1st time, I stopped breastfeeding in July, didn't have a period the whole time I was nursing & didn't get it until September. The 2nd time I breastfed for 13months, got my period at 4 months post-partum & got a handfull of periods during that 13months.

I also started my period while I was still nursing. Around the four month mark both times. Nursed for 6 months with each before they weaned themselves. I always wondered if part of it was due to that and part of it was due to teething...

Sorry...not an anwer to your question but...

Gosh, I'm always amazed when I hear this. I nursed exclusively for 16 months with both of my children. I had my period the entire time...my first being about 6 weeks after my babies were born!

W/ my 1st (nursed well past a year) it came back at 6 months.
W/ my 2nd (still nursing at 15 months) it came back at 8, but there have been a few weird ones...had a very unusual barely 3 whole days period a few back...

Unfortunately, everyone is different...I wouldn't stress over it too much unless you are TTC. If not...well...count yourself lucky. :)

I breastfed both my kids and WHILE nursing, I got my periods back.
With my first child= about 6 months'ish.
With my 2nd = within 4 months.
And my periods, went back to being real regular, as it always had been, before I was pregnant. And yes, I was still nursing.
Both my kids self-weaned.
My daughter at about 2.5 years old.
And my son at about 1 year old.
But my periods were already real regular by then.

After my first, I got pregnant again within 2 years (I nursed about 18 months)... it still wasn't normal which is why I was almost 4 months pregnant before I even knew with my second. So, I went about 4 years with an abnormal cycle :)

I nursed my last 12 months. My cycle took 2 mos after I quit to come back but then was like clockwork every 28 days before I got pregnant with my current baby- they are 2.5 yrs apart. Were you regular before getting prego?

I nursed for 11 months, but my period came back at 7 months. It was quite regular from the beginning, if I'm remembering right.

I was pumping and barely getting any milk and it still took 10 months for mine to come back. But do be careful unless you want another baby right away.

After my first I started having mostly regular periods (while nursing, starting when he was about 8 or 9 months old). They got really heavy and I had a few back-to-back ones after he weaned (around a year) and I switched to combination pills instead of mini-pills. After the second period with one weeks' break we decided we would just stop pills and see when I got pregnant (I didn't have another period).

After my second, I got my period around a year and started regular pills when he weaned (after 13 months). My bleeding was all over the place--it would last at least a week at a time, never regular, sometimes 6 weeks without anything then two weeks of heavy bleeding. It went on like that and weirder for at least six months and I tried different pills but by then we wanted another baby so I just stopped. Never got regular. Before kids I was completely regular. It will be interesting to see what happens when I wean number 3. I know a lot of moms who have really regular cycles right after weaning kids, so hopefully you will too. :)

With my first baby I didn't get a period because I got pregnant with #2 while weaning :) With my second I got my first period about 4 weeks after she was fully weaned, but then it was pretty random for about 4 months. Then I had 2 regular, 28-day cycles and got pregnant with #3 (who I'm still nursing).

I nursed my son regularly up until 18 months and then during the night and at nap time from then until now (25 months). I never really got my period back. I am pretty certain it was the night nursing that did it. That being said, as soon as I spaced out the nursings to around 5-8 hours apart - I got pregnant (miscarried shortly thereafter). Believing that the miscarriage was hormonally related, I looked into the supplement chasteberry or more commonly known as Vitex. It is well-known in breastfeeding circles to help get a woman's cycle back on track. Two weeks after taking it, I got my period - 2 weeks after that, I got pregnant again (I supplemented with progesterone during the luteal phase to help support the pregnancy this time). I am 99% certain that my period would not have returned with any sort of regularity if it had not been for Vitex.
