Hi Moms! So I have a quick question. I am a huge couponer and unfortunatly forget to keep it up every once in a while. What are your best tricks and do you think there is a bigger benefit with the Grocery Game or The Coupon Mom? Or is it "same smell, different nostril" kind of thing?

Thanks!

M.

I have a couple of favorite grocery stores. They have a rythm of putting things on sale. Every 3 weeks they put red meat on sale, the next week is produce, then chicken , the next week is staples. So, I try to hit those sales and stock up. When I go to those stores websites, they have coupons that I can download to my shopper card. I don't know if you have those, but I assume you do. It's the little keytag the store gives you. Other coupon websites will load your coupons on your shopper card also, if you tell them what stores you use. Even brand websites, like Johnson and Johnson have loadable coupons. That way no clipping, sorting whatever. I just have to remember that I have a coupon for that. I mostly buy generic, but for certain things - like laundry soap, I will splurge for the real deal. So, I load the coupon and wait for it to go on sale.

Marry a military guy and shop at the commissary! Ha ha! Aside from that.. I also notice that Albertsons (if you have one in your area) has great deals and quality fish/seafood... stock up when they have their sales (always in a flyer/insert in newspaper).

I use coupons to the hill, but I also own a distribution business of a newspaper so I have access to numerous copies of the coupon. I think the trick is to cut only the coupons you will use and use them when the product is on sale or triple coupn week and stock up. Hope that helps, best of luck

Think of the time you are taking to get all these coupons organized, line up the stores you want to shop, etc. TIME-$$$ in my book.

I also would not pay a website money to show me how to deal or get coupons. I deal on my own pretty well, save time and $$.

I shop Market Street almost daily and they always have great weekly specials. I occasionally go to the Tom Thumb close to my house is they advertise a really good deal. About once every 2-3 months, I stock up at Costco on staples. We have a fantastic butcher shop and I buy all our meat from him.

I do not drive all over the place to go to these stores. I am within 5 minutes of each store but I shop 95% of the time at Market Street. When i see a good deal, I load up.

Good luck!!

I use coupons and actually find them beneficial only when it is for products I do not fudge on (the brand is the best after testing others) or there is not a generic alternative. I find most coupons are for "Brand" products and even with the coupon the generic is far cheaper and I do not have to buy 2 or 5 of it to get 0.55 off.

I use the grocery game - it's easy, simply organized, and they don't sell your email and sent you tons of junk. On the other hand, I tried the coupon mom - it took months to get rid of all the junk, and to wade through all the junk offers before you ever get to the lists. I do find that on my own I save 25-30% on my bill. When I "shop the list" I typicaly save 30-40%, so it is worth the $10 a quarter to pay for the grocery game. Between my Sooper card, double coupons, and the Grocery Game, I do most of my shopping at King Soopers, and find I do better than shopping at Walmart for all but a few grocery items. I also shop at Costco about once a month for staples that I can keep in bulk.

I get behind on my couponing too so I don't know any good tricks. I do like the Savvy Shopper though. (www.savvyshopperdeals.com/national/) Because it's FREE!!! It's basically just like the Grocery Game, but I know that costs money for each store. The Savvy Shopper has a ton of store and actually just recently added a bunch of different states to their list. Check it out. Amy, the main girl that runs it, also has a TON of tips and how-tos and it's a great site. Good luck!
