I just got called back for additional images and possibly an ultrasound because they could not see an area of my left breast clearly. Should I be concerned? I do have dense breasts. I am freaking out.

What can I do next?

Nothing to worry about.
It happens all the time.
The only time to freak out is after they tell you they've found a problem.
Until then - just relax.

Welcome to mamapedia.

Why are you freaking out? Is freaking out going to change ANYTHING? no. it won't. STOP.
Breathe.

Go back in and get 'er done. If there are problems - deal with it. STOP FREAKING OUT.

I found lumps on my breasts. I was called back. Turned out it was nothing. They are gone. Freaking out is only going to hurt you. STOP FREAKING OUT.

It's common for them to call you back, didn't they tell you that when you had your mammogram? Don't worry until there's something to worry about.

Well, I've had to go for an ultrasound to see way up in my armpit. It was fine :)

I've known so many women who have had to go back - and it's always been ok. I don't have dense breasts - and even with me they had issues seeing all aspects of mine!

Breathe :) It happens all the time!

for now i wouldn't worry too much.
with my first pregnancy they had trouble seeing all 4 chambers of the babys heart. they wanted to wait a week and try again with the other machine. everything was fine. sometimes the images are not clear, or the tech that did the first one messed up.
for peace of mind you can ask them if they think somethings there and talk things over with your dr.

Every two years I get called back. It's always the same, we're just checking. and it's nothing.
Stop panicking. It's not going to change anything or any outcome. In fact, it might make you worse off as stress and panic makes ones heart beat go up.

This happens to me every single time I get a mammogram. It's always normal after the second set of images and sonogram, I'm just hard to image. Please don't freak out, it's really common.

Last year I got a call back. Mine said there was an area of thickness in one breast. It caused be a lot of anxiety esp since i had to wait 2 weeks for the diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound....but in the end it was nothing!
I would say just getting insufficient pics shouldn’t be a reason to worry. Don’t stress!

I just went through this. Last week I had my first mammogram (2D). It was time, because of my age. I didn't have any reason to suspect anything. I got called back for a second one on my left side, this time it was 3D.

After those images, I waited while the radiologist looked and he did want an ultrasound, so I had that done. Even I could see a black oval on the monitor. I saw another doctor that same day who did a physical breast exam and felt nothing, because the lump was very small. He looked at the images and notes and ordered the biopsy.

I had the biopsy yesterday. Not a fun time, but not the worst thing I've had done. The results came already this morning and it was a very common and always benign fibroadenoma. I know other women with the same thing. Sometimes several of them. It's just something that you have to check to make sure about. :-)

Please don't freak out. I know this is a tough call to get - because I've gotten dozens of them. Remember the old days of getting film developed? Sometimes photos came out blurry, which is why people always took more than one photo of a group just to be sure. We still do that! So that's what they're doing. If there's a dense area that isn't showing on the image, then they'll do an ultrasound as just another way to get an image of that area. Two technologies, redundancy, back-up. The other thing this does is it gives them a baseline record for next year and the year beyond. They can detect - or rule out - subtle changes.

The overwhelming majority of images show no problems. Hardly any show a problem. Of those few problems, hardly any are cancer. Of those cancers, hardly any are fatal or dire.

I'd rather be the woman they call back for a new image than the one they dismiss and say, "Oh, let's not upset her. Let's hope it works out."

I know it's hard. I really do. I spent 15 years going through this before I got rid of my imaging problems and got better breast health. What I found was that none of my worrying helped me at all, and that I never had cancer.

Good luck!
