Morning Sickness - Lake Orion,MI

Ugh. I really wish I didn't have to go through this again. With my daugther I had morning sickness practically the entire time. I could not eat much, nothing, i mean nothing sounded good to eat. I was really hoping this time would be different. I'm waking up 2-3 times a night starving because I can't eat a substantial dinner to last through the night. Meat isn't a very good friend right now. I just want sleep without having to wake up to have a snack only to wake up in another 2-3 hours to do it over again.

I know ginger and other things are supposed to help. I guess I'm okay with getting sick (as much as I can be) but it's the lack of sleep that is getting to me. I'm cranky and very impatient with my daugher and i don't feel like doing anything but laying on the couch.

Anyone have any suggestions on what I can eat before bed that won't make me nauseous and fill me up so I can sleep? I've tried having a bowl of cereal right before going to bed but that doesn't work either.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the input ladies. I have been able to eat yogurt and cottage cheese. I actually have taken some Zofran that I had left over from a gallbladder attack a few weeks ago. I have only taken them when I felt like I was going to throw up. I'll have to get a new script for them. I'll try eating eggs more too and get some nuts to snack on.
Thanks again.

You might want to try something with more protein--like peanut butter toast or a PBJ sandwich. Meat repulsed me as well when I was pregnant, so I know what you mean. Good luck!

It's lack of protein that makes the hunger come back. I know you are having a hard time with meat right now, so maybe try something with beans (black beans are awesome!) or nuts. I too had round the clock 40 weeks nausea- with both my babies. My hubby made me cheese toast in the oven many evenings. Put 2 slices of bread on a cookie sheet, lay a slice of cheese (you can use plain american singles if you like, or substitute it for thicker deli style slices of cheddar) and pop it into the oven until the top starts to look melty. They are one of my "go to" foods now when I am feeling sick... a little comfort food my hubby shared with me from his childhood. :)
Also, if you can tolerate eggs, scramble a couple of eggs or make a quick omelet... eggs are loaded with almost as much protein as meat is (1 egg has about 6 grams of protein, 1 ounce of meat has 7 grams of protein).

fwiw, I ended up taking Zofran during my 2nd pregnancy. It did help tremendously. I went from completely incapacitated and unable to care for my 2 yr old little boy, to still nauseous but able to function. Able to eat. Able to take a shower. Able to keep my 2 yr old from setting the house on fire, lol. :) I wouldnt have made it thru without it. My daughter (I was pregnant with at the time) turned 9 yrs yesterday. She is perfect. And academically gifted. So no harm from using Zofran... :)
I hope you are feeling better soon.

I couldn't eat meat at all during my first pregnancy even after I was over morning sickness it totally repulsed me. I know that some people tell you not to eat peanut butter because it may make your baby more likely to have peanut allergies but if you can't eat meat it is a great substitute. Also beans have lots of protein which should help to make you last longer between your little meals. I was only able to eat tiny meals during my entire first pregnancy first due to the morning sickness and then due to heartburn so I can understand how frustrating it is.

Like another person that answered, I went from completely incapacitated to able to function, eat, sleep, care for my 2 children (including a very demanding special needs child) all by taking Zofran. The key I've found though is I have to take it at the same time every day regardless of whether I feel sick. It seems to build up in my system and if I wait until I do feel sick it does not work nearly as well. I am 8 months pregnant right now and take it twice a day - around 10am and again around 10 or 11pm. You can take it up to 3 times per day. (and yes, in previous pregnancies I have done the certain foods, Unisom/b6, phenergan, etc. Zofran is the only one that worked)

I've been having pretzels and cheese for breakfast and dinner for several days now. It's not ideal, but at least it's something in my stomach. I have been waking up at night, but have been able to fall back asleep without getting up to have a snack. If I did have to get up, I would have to stop by the bathroom to throw-up first. You might not want to try it, but with my first pregnancy I took Zofran 4mg once a day. It was THE ONLY way I could survive. I was VERY reluctant to take it, but I have a perfectly healthy 19 month old. Now I'm pregnant again and have started taking the pills I have left over from before. It doesn't make the sickness go completely away, but it allows me to get through my days. Sometimes I'm actually able to eat some meat! I hope you find something that works for you, because I know how miserable you feel right now.

when i felt super bad all i could eat was ginger ale and saltines....

but for me, I found that if i could make myself eat something a bit more substantial every couple of hours i did a bit better

some of my go to foods are:
peanut butter, cream cheese, sunflower butter, etc on a whole wheat english muffin or crackers or bananna..... nuts.... hard boiled egg.....pasta...
also water never sounded good to me, but if i flavored it with some fruit juice or lemonade I could drink more....

fortunately I started to improve after 12-14 weeks
good luck!

Meat also repulses me right now and I am 22 weeks along. I am startig to just now get over most of the morning sickness, but I still dont want anything to do with meat. I try to eat cheese, nuts, and eggs for protien becasue that is truelly what you need to feel full longer. I would much rather live on carbs right now, but the protien does help.

Also, when i was going through 24/7 morning sickness, my doctor had me taking Unisom (certian kind, so check with dr. first) and vitamin b6 multiple times a day and they really helped. The only negative is that witht he Unisom, i was always tired.

Good Luck!

protein! peanut butter, raw nuts, oikos greek yogurt (no fat, creamy delicious, add some fruit or nuts and a tablespoon of local honey.) beans might cause gas which can contribute to the sleeplessness.
hit the couch when you need to. hopefully this will not be like your last pregnancy, they're rarely the same.

I also love bean and cheese burritos - homemade, not the frozen processed ones. Just take a whole wheat tortilla, spread on can vegetarian refried beans and sprinkle with cheese. Microwave for 45 seconds. You can add letturce, tomato, onion, avacodo, salsa, whatever!! Note=make sure to only buy the vegetarian beans because the "regular" ones have hydrogenated lard!!! Another one of my fav preggo snacks was a banana with PB - eat it with a fork.
