Morning Sickness?

I just found out that we are expecting our second baby in late March/early April next year. With my son, I had terrible, awful, horrible morning sickness that lasted for about 14-15 weeks. So my question is this: are there any other moms that had really bad morning sickness with one pregnancy but it wasn't as bad with subsequent pregnancies? Trying to give myself a little hope here- last time I was teaching school, but the morning sickness all happened during the summer. I had the luxury of staying in bed when I needed to- that won't be the case this time with a two and 1/2 year old to take care of! I am thrilled to be pregnant again, but nervous about how I am going to handle it.

I would be grateful for any comments you have . . .

Thanks!
K.

Congratulations!

Each pregnancy is different! Hopefully you won't experience such bad morning sickness this time. I was fortunate to not have morning sickness with either of my 4.

Good luck! :-)

This should give you hope...

With my first I was so ill that I lost 15 pounds by the time I was 9 weeks pregnant (and I was teaching at the time). I was unable to eat or drink anything and was almost put into the hospital. I was put on Zofran (which works wonders by the way) and I was able to at least eat and drink enough to get by until the sickness faded (around 15-16 weeks).

I am now 30 weeks pregnant with #2 and I didn't have hardly any sickness. I did have days I didn't feel great or foods that repulsed me, but nothing like the first time. I also did not have to take any medication this time around. I was slow to gain weight in the beginning, but everything was/is fine.

This pregnancy has been NOTHING like the first, so don't feel like if it happened the first time it will happen again. (and I am having another boy, so it isn't a change in sex that makes everything different!) I have found that one of the best ways to combat morning sickness is to keep a regular exercise routine. I've done Stroller Strides throughout my entire pregnancy and I feel better for it.

Everything will be fine ;-)

Congrats on your new bundle of joy. I had really bad morning sickness for the first 18 weeks of my pregnancy. There is actually prescription medication you can take that did wonders for me. I don't remember the name of it, but if you ask your doc- he will know. Unfortunately, I did not find out about it until I was already into my 2nd trimester. Hope it goes smoothly for you.

I found Ensures (lots of flavors to choose from) much easier to get down than crackers and such. I drank several a day, especially in the middle of the night (I had an ice bucket near my bed with it in there on ice) so that when I woke up I would not be on an empty stomach. Peppermint is also good for sickness; peppermint breath mints, candies, gum, etc.

I did not have a horrible case of it, but was nauseous most of the first trimester if I did not keep food on my tummy....veggies and such were not cutting it. I ate whatever my desire the first trimester and that helped. Once things calmed down, I ate better, but at first, I think I needed the fat.

Congratulations and hopefully this one will be easier.

I asked this question not long ago. I had Morning sickness gone WRONG!!!! I was deathly sick from 6 weeks to delivery date. A huge concern for us again before we get preg again.

I can tell you what worked for me just incase you get sick again. I was on a Zophrin Pump....just like a Insulin pump but with Zophrin instead and it pumps the medication into your body 24/7. This added to Phengren and eating a BRAT diet was enough to help me hold down some food. Of course i was still admitted from time to time to the hospital for dehidration. But, I had MS really bad!

Good luck and I hope you have a perfect preg with no morning sickness!

Every pregnancy is different.

Your body may do better with this pregnancy because it is something your body already knows. OR Your body may say I did not like this last time and I definately do not want it again.

Just keep some crackers by the bed to eat before getting up in the morning and keep some tums in your purse for heartburn.

Congrats on the bundle of joy at the end of the 40 week journey (whatever it may contain).

Blessings,

P. <><

I had very bad morning sicknesss with my first. I would get ready for work every morning only to find myself getting sick then having to get ready all over again. I was late for work everyday for about 3 weeks. My second was totally different. I got sick just a few times and even the mornings that I felt sick I had to tell myself not to throw up because I needed my strength to take care of my 3 yr old. I think when you have a child already you seem to forget about being pregant because you have other things on your mind that have to get done. My second pregnancy was great and the delivery was a breeze. 3 pushes :-)

My morning sickness got worse with my second and third, but I did use prescription medication, which did wonders! Ask your doc about Zofran, and if that doesn't work for you, try Phenergan. You'll find they make a world of difference!

Well morning sickness is a bummer, but may not be as bad this time. If it is, there are several things you can try before going to the big meds!

Prevention:
Somtimes a defciency of B6 will contribute to MS. try a B suppliment, sublingual works best 10-20 mg day
try drinking tea of Anise or Fennel each morning or a tsp of apple cider vinegar in an 8oz glass of water each morning.

Remedies:
Ginger root, in tea, fresh shaved or candied.
Peppermint oil: Altoids are good.
homeopathic:
ipecac 30x
nux vomica 6x
I would seek out a qualified homeopath to taylor a remedy for you!

Of course eating small frequent meals and really eating whatever you can keep down is ok. You can really get into serious nutrition once the nausea passes.

Hopefully everything will be well!
