Morning Sickness, and Sea Bands

So I'm pregnant with my third, and the morning sickness has started. For me it's 24/7 nausea but I never throw up. So I just always feel yucky for about 2 months or so. I was wondering if any of you have tried a Sea Band and if you have any tips on using it. I've heard they can help. Also do you have any other helpful remedies for getting through the early difficult months of pregnancy?

I tried them and really believe in magnets and reflexology but they didn't work for me. They are pretty cheap so I say its worth a try.

I loved the SEAbands. I also used them for traveling as I get car sick. It was so nice not to have to worry about the medicine I was taking.

I tried the Sea Bands and they did not help me much. I was throwing up at least 3 times a day. Nothing helped with my first pregnancy and I lost 25lbs in a month. I still had to go to work. I was in the ER about once a week getting pumped full of IV fluids. My second pregnancy I went through particular food phases that I craved and was able to keep down. Some of them were Taco Bell, chili, buffalo wings, and Coke. Crackers and Ginger Ale or 7-up did not work for me at all. The aftertaste of the soda was too much for me and just made me vomit it back up. I had a really strong gag reflex and sense of smell. Car rides were also a bad time for me as well. Morning sickness is the pits and I know you may feel really bad, but you will get through it. I laid in bed a lot and I could not move around a lot without feeling like I had to throw up. It really helped to have family around. My in-laws took my 2 1/2 year old for a few days a week to help. Making him meals was the worst. I couldn't keep up with him or entertain him enough to keep him happy. I know having family around isn't always something that is possible for everyone. Hang in there! If there is any food that sounds good, go for it! I think there is a reason for it.

Sounds like your "morning sickness" follows the same pattern mine did. Why do they call it morning sickness if it lasts all day? For what it's worth, here's what helped me.

Eating frequently in small amounts helped, and for some reason, plain yogurt was my friend during those first few months. It didn't trigger the queasy feeling to the same degree that other foods did, so I ended up eating it often.

I tried the Sea Bands, and for me, they didn't do much (I do have girlfriends for whom they were helpful, though). I had better luck with ginger in various forms - ginger tea, pickled ginger, candied ginger. The tea was best because it was soothing and hydrating as well as tummy-settling. Peppermint tea also helped a bit.

Also, in my case, regular prenatal vitamins contributed to the queasiness, so my doc put me on double doses of kids' chewable vitamins instead. This helped a lot.

Of course, the "cure" for morning sickness is to get through those first few months. Good luck, and I hope you have a happy, healthy pregnancy.

Oh, honey. Morning sickness is the pits!
With my third, I finally figured out a few tricks to help me manage it. I know some moms who say Sea Bands helped a bit, but I learned this:
The hormonal fluctuations of pregnancy will feel more severe if your blood sugar is low. I always thought a cracker or something like that would help settle my stomach, but remember, you don't have the flu, you have major hormonal fluctuations, so a simple carbohydrate like that won't really give you anything but a blood sugar spike and then send you crashing back down into more nausea. Protein is your friend. It burns more slowly so your blood sugar can stabalize and you won't feel the boat rocking so much. In my Bradley class (highly recommended) we looked at Dr. Tom Brewer's suggested pregnancy diet. You can see it at www.blueribbonbaby.com. Even if you don't follow it exactly, it has some good suggestions and will help you get ahead of the nausea.
The other thing that *saved* me is a vitamin B injection. Most prenatal vitamins have vitamin B in them, and it's great at warding off nausea, but when taken as a pill it takes so long to be aborbed through the gut that it doesn't help fight the barfy feeling. I got a vitamin B injection and within a couple hours I felt as if the boat had finally docked! It really helped me get ahead of the nausea so I could manage it with my diet and still be able to play with my other kids. Consider asking your midwife about having a vitamin B injection. I wish I'd done it sooner.

I've never tried a sea band before, but I've had the "morning sickness!" Actually I had it through my entire pregnancy up until I had my baby. The only thing that would help me was if I was constantly eating. If it was lunch time I had to eat at the exact time. Try it, it's fun! Good thing the weight left right after the baby came out! But I know what you're going through, I hope that helps. Good luck and congrats!

try to never have an empty tummy. Lots of small meals throughout the day. Crackers by your bedside so you can put a cracker in your mouth before you even sit up for the day.

If you sit down and try hard to think of something that sounds good, you might find something that'll settle your tummy.

for some people it's quiznos sandwiches or strawberry shakes or navel oranges. for my last baby, the only thing that settled my tummy was protein -- protein shakes, and breakfast steak. I think the baby sucked up the food so fast that protein was the only thing that would stay in my tummy long enough so I wouldn't feel sick.

Stay clear of onions, garlic....good luck.

you can also try aroma therapy. sometimes the only thing that helped me was putting a pack of mint gum under my nose. (and no, I didn't put any in my mouth)

When I was prego with my first I was like you- sick 24/7 but never threw up. My hubby got me sea bands... I wore them all the time and they did help some. But never thought all the way. Then one day I was in the shower (of course they are off then) and the phone rang. I got out and ended up talking on the phone for about an hour and then started to feel SO sick- I had to end the phone call. When I walked back into the bathroom I realized they had been off for an hour. Soooooo I realized that although I still felt not so great they did in fact help me tons! I probably would have been throwing up for months without them.

I used the sea bands when I was pregnant with my 4th and they worked great. I definitely recommend them.

Well at this point I'd hope you had already gone out and bought them. They worked for me kind of-I never felt fully not sick. Ginger snap crackers helped.

I battled with nausea with my most recent pregnancy and hit some great advice from a friend ( who is also a Bradley method instructor) she advised me to be sure I ate enough protein. I was disgusted at the idea but she encouraged me to choke down one egg every morning and it would improve things. So I hard boiled a dozen eggs and ate one every morning and as a snack before. I dinner. I wasamazed, but it really helped my nausea to subside.

For me, the sea bands worked great. I was still experiencing nausea, but between those and Sprite, it was the only thing keeping me feeling okay enough to take care of my other daughter. Good luck!

I did use Sea Bands (found them behind the pharmacy counter at Target, had to ask for them) and they helped a lot! I also had to be sure to eat tons of small meals. Drinking Vernors (like ginger ale) and peppermint tea also helped. Good luck and hopefully you will feel better soon.
