With my 1st daughter I had MS all day and all night for about 6 months and it was HORRIBLE! Well it looks like I am gonna be facing the same thing again this time around. :( Besides the usual eat small meals, ice chips, deep breaths, brush teeth etc type deals you read about has anyone found anything that actually works? I have a 2 year old to take care of and at this point its hard to take care of even myself. Help!

What can I do next?

Zofran if you can afford it. Usually drs prescribe phenergan first, but even that didn't curb mine at all. Zofran made it bearable. It costs an insane amount if you don't have insurance though. None of the ginger, preggie pops, carbonation type things worked for me-in fact ginger is so nasty to me I threw up more!

When I was pregnant I did some internet research to find a good way to treat MS without meds. I read about and then tried a protein shake called Spirutein. You can find it at most of the health food stores around DFW, and some regular grocery stores. They come in both powdered mix form (which was awful) and in juice boxes. The juice boxes didn't taste great, but I just drank it really fast and tried not to taste it. And the straw helps get it past your tastebuds! My husband would bring me "breakfast in bed"--a protein shake--each morning until I started feeling better, well into my second trimester. The shakes did help me get protein in my system so I could get up and go to work, and protein regulates your blood sugar. You might experiment with other types of shakes for a flavor you like. With low carb diets being popular, there are many varieties out there. Watch out for artificial sweeteners, though.

I'm sure this wouldn't work for everyone, but it might be worth trying as it shouldn't be harmful as long as you don't get one with weird herbs or added artifical stuff.

Congratulations and Best Wishes for a Happy, Safe Pregnancy!

Hi A.,
Do you happen to have reflux when you aren't pregnant? I have/had just enough that I knew it but could control it just by watching what I ate/drank. Anyway, while pregnant both times it got really bad but with my 2nd preg. my ob said that they had approved reflux meds while pregnant since my first preg. so I tried over the counter meds. first and it helped but not enough so we ended up after a few others taking nexium! Wow! What a difference. I didn't even through up after I started it! This might not work if you don't have the reflux to start with not sure but if I could have thrown up a few less times with my 1st and in the beg. with #2 I'd have tried about anything!

A., I tried everything (except for the motion sickness braclets) and the ONLY thing that worked was Zofron. Major expensive, $75 for 10 pills and that's with insurance. I cut the pills in half and only took them on days where I had a test or something important to do. But I cut corners and got the pills b/c my health and Isaac's health came first! Otherwise, I would have been on an iv the whole 9 months!
(By the way, anything Ginger made me sicker...)

I had the worst case of MS you can have. I was in and out of the hospital and at one point was going to have a nurse come to my home to put an IV into me. I couldnt drink or hold food down...I was starving to death.

It was so BAD!!! It started during my second month and lasted for about 3 months until it was to the point that it was down to a normal morning sickness. It was so bad that I lost all body fat and started loosing muscle and protein. I spent 8 straight hours in my bathroom throwing up. I made a bed in the restroom because I spent so much time in there. I lost my job because I couldn’t function.

I was on Phenergan, then they put me on Zophrin, then they tried Protonix for the stomach acid, then Reglan to help hold food down. Steroids and then it got to the point they finally put me on a Zofran pump where a needle was pushed into my leg every 2 days and a catheter was left behind and I had a constant 24/7 dose of medication. With all of these I was able to at least hold some food down. Zofran is extremely expensive but if you have good insurance and it is a medical need it might be free for you. I didn’t have to pay a thing and the viles were something like $800 a tube and I went through 4 a day.

Watch your diet...no acidic foods or things with tomato sauce it can be hard on your stomach. Stay away from Steaks and lettuce they take too long to digest and can come back up again. I would recommend things that are easy to come back up just incase. Like pasta, mashed potatoes, apple sauce.

I had a salivary problem and that also caused me to be nauseous a lot. I sucked on Peppermints, chewed gums and sucked on suckers. This helped out a lot!

You think that with all that medication that their might be a prob with the baby. NOPE she is in perfect health...
Although I wont have anymore children because it was so horrible for my body to deal with. I was so very sick for all 40 weeks of my preg with MS and Anemia that it is just too much for my body to go through again.

I second using Ginger. You can get ginger tea at health food stores or vitamin shops. You can also buy fresh ginger root and put it in anything. They even make some really srong ginger cookies that I enjoyed.

I couldn't have made it without preggie pops or the preggie pops hard candies. I had them by my bed and popped one in my mouth as soon as I woke up in the morning and before I got out of bed. I also carried them with me everywhere in case I started feeling nauseated. You can get them at motherhood or any maternity store. Not all of them taste wonderful (there's one that's lavendar, which was just awful to me), but they work wonders! Good luck!

When I was pragnant someone gave me Organic Ginger Snaps for a cough that I could not get rid of. What I found out is that it not only took the cough away but it also took my morning sickness away also! I use to get it from a health food store in California but here in Texas I could not find it (because I still use it when my children or I get a cough. You can get it from www.econaturalsolutions.com It really works. Also make sure that you are including a lot of protein everytime you eat. But the Organic Ginger Snaps works much better.

Hi A.,
Try ginger. I did Ginger Ale when I was pregnant with my daughter, but really anything with ginger in it will work! Seriously, I tried everything anyone would offer as advice and NOTHING worked but ginger. I drank ginger ale all day long. Probably not the best thing to do, but hey I kept food down.

Good luck to you.
