L.T.
P.,
I will be praying for you and your family as you work through this. My son (2 1/2) was recently diagnosed with leukemia so I have done some research on dealing with serious illnesses. I ordered a lot of booklets from the American Cancer Society and a friend ordered some from Cancer Care. Most of the publications are free. Both organizations can be found online and some of their publications can be viewed online as well. The American Cancer Society has an activity book for kids called "Because Someone I Love Has Cancer". I don't know if your tumor is cancerous or not, but many of the suggestions from these resources can be used for noncancerous conditions as well. I also researched support groups in the area. In Pittsburgh we have several groups - one in particular that sticks out in my mind is Gilda's House (named after the comedian Gilda Radnor). It offers services for patients as well as families and caregivers. Perhaps your doctor can provide information on local resources.
Have you tried looking for support groups online that pertain to your particular diagnosis?
Do you have family or friends that can assist you? Whether it be to make some meals, run some errands, drive the kids to activities, or watch the kids so you can have some time to yourself? I have found that having some "down" time and having a helping hand makes a huge difference. It makes me less stressed which helps to keep my kids less stressed.
Please contact me if you need any more info. Best wishes to you!
