Mother of 5 Month Old

This has happened to my 5 month old too. I have often wondered why... I am interested to find out if there is a medical reason or if it's normal.

My son will be five months old next week and the same exact thing happens. Everyone always thinks his feet are cold but nobody believes me when I say they are just purple. I have just attributed it to one of those weird baby-isms that you never find out about until you have one. My son seems perfectly fine otherwise and kicks his feet and moves his arms alot. I think that my daughter had the same thing at this age but of course I can't remember.

J., please have him checked a.s.a.p. I've never experienced this, but have his heart checked. You never know what the problem could be and if it is his heart, it would not be wise to wait too long. Good luck, and hopefully the doc will be able to tell you what the problem is right away.

Is he a particularly chubby baby? If so, this is very normal. My son would get it often in the morning after he just got up. I took him into the doctor and they said that it's just lack of blood flow to the area due to chubbiness. Make sure he's not wearing shorts or socks that cut off the blood flow and aren't tight.

That used to happen to my dd all the time! I was concerned and asked the ped and she said that as long as her core (chest, face, neck, torso) isn't purple that she is fine. It's just that the circulation isn't that good yet and also the fat rolls don't help! lol He's fine!

My son will be 5 months next week and I have encounterd the same thing but just his feet. Out of nowhere I will look at his feet and they are purple. I asked the doctor about it at his 4 month visit and he said it was normal and most babies grow out of it. It did have some fancy medical term but I can't remember what it is. Nonetheless I would still check it out with your doctor in case it is something more serious. Good luck!

Hey J....no worries! My daughter has the same problem but only one leg. It had to do with how we were holding her. I would wrap my arm aroung her and hold onto one thigh, that leg was the one that went purple. I never could figure out how to hold her without that happening either. Eventually it stopped. Her ped was unconcerned and she has had no problems from it or since then.
