Mother's Milk Nursing Tea

I just bought this tea because I want to build up my milk supply for when I pump at work. Currently, I pump anywhere between 5 oz. - 11 oz. a day at work (I pump 3 times.) Ideally, I'd like to get to 15-16oz so I don't have to supplement with formula anymore.

My question is how quickly does the tea work? And when should I be drinking it? I'm afraid of drinking it and I'll get too full at times that I don't want to. My son is starting to learn to sleep longer at night. Last thing I want is to wake up with painful full breasts at the middle of the night.

Should I only drink the tea when I'm at work? Right before pumping? An hour before pumping? Does it even matter?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

It's been a little over a month. Doesn't look like that Mother's Milk Tea has made much of a difference. Tastes great though. I love tea. I have also been taking some fenugreek supplements, no difference with that either.

I haven't had a chance to rent a hospital grade pump. Guess I'll try More Milk Plus next.

I drank that tea for months with both my babies and you can drink it any time of day or night, it doesn't matter. It just helps you make milk in general, it doesn't work that fast like medicine, so you don't have to worry about timing it. I think it kept me from drying up too soon. Enjoy!

The real key to keeping your milk up is after you bf baby then pump to empty. Be consistent and pump or bf baby every 3 hours. Baby isn't hungry, then pump. Seriously! I pumped for 14 months. That and drinking lots of water kept my BM going. Good luck and email me if yu want to talk more. ;-)

I don't think the Mother's Milk Tea did much. My lactation consultant suggested drinking it as a means of hydrating and possibly getting a little benefit, but for increasing milk supply, she suggested taking fenugreek and blessed thistle supplements. Both are available at any natural foods store.

You also might want to try renting a hospital grade pump for a month, sometimes that really gets the milk supply going. Go to www.medela.com to see where to rent in your area.

I drank the tea for about a month...about 2 cups a day, and noticed no change at all...I think the best way to increase your supply is just to pump/feed more often. That is what I found worked for me, and that my body produces what my son eats...no more, no less.

It did help me! I drank it all day long, but I had very little milk supply. Good luck!

The tea didn't do much for me either. My LC recommended a tincture called More Milk Plus. It worked like a charm for me.

Hi Roseangeli,
Congrats on your new baby. I went back to work when my son was 6 months old. My LC told me to take More Milk Plus (if you can get the Alcohol Free one) http://www.motherlove.com/product_more_milk_plus_glycerit...
This has helped me so much keeping up my milk supply while back at work. I first pumped 3 times a day while at work. But by taking the More Milk Plus I can pump just as much with only 2x a day.
My doctor told me to drink a beer at night before I got to bed I tried that too. And I was able to sleep better at night and more relaxed which also helped my milk supply too. I don't drink the beer any more I only did this for 1 week. But I think what is going to help you able to pump an adequate amount of milk for your baby. Is you need to take care of yourself need lots of water, rest and really good food. I understand that it is so hard to get lots of rest.
My LC also told me to nurse my baby right before I leave the house and as soon as I get home the best pump is a effective nursing baby. The more the baby feeds off of you the more the prolactin is generated which means more milk for your little.
Physically it’s hard to have an intimate relationship with the plastic breast shield and a mechanical pump. Please take a picture of your little one while you are pumping to look at while at work.
Good Luck

Great job breastfeeding, keep it up! To increase your supply most the teas and foods are gimics. Just eat and drink alot, everytime you feed or nurse eat & drink something healthy. Also sleep helps alot because your body needs rest to restore itself. Since you're not home with your son that makes it hard because your body doesn't have natural triggers (hearing him laugh, cry...)

I would suggest the tea, I also used Fenugreek you can get that a Henry's market. I also purchased Donperidone but I would consult your Doc first, look it up online.

Hi,
I used the tea for my first daughter. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but it did seem to help. My doctors office actually suggested. I do not think it is harmful. I do not think it matters when you drink the tea. I drank it when I went back to work for a while and then just didn't bother. Both children I nursed for 9 months and when then I started formula, maybe I started formula a little bit early to get them use to it and when my supply started to dwindle. Both my girls are extremely healthy and smart! Don't worry about the tea. Just do what feels right and it all works. God Bless you and your little one!

I too had to go back to work when my DS was 3mos old. I took my pump and my output never went to more than 8 oz. throughout the day, no matter how much tea I drank. I think that the extra fluid throughout the day helped though, and I think baby liked the milk flavor better because he couldn't get enough when I was home. But I stopped pumping at 5 mos because I just couldn't handle my manager's and my co-workers' remarks about me being "in my office" on my "break" (my office was the supply closet, since it's the ONLY room in the building with a solid non-glass door aside from the bathroom!).

Honestly, I don't think it really matters WHEN you take it. I have taken MMT with both my girls (am currently breastfeeding my 9 week old) and didn't notice a huge difference in output. But then, she likes to nurse pretty frequently! It is a nice tea, however, and I recommend it to all my nursing friends. So maybe try the tea and pumping more often (?)
