My hubby is gone for a business trip all week. I am wondering if their has been a movie that any of you would recommend. I enjoy all types of movies, so do not have a preference.

What can I do next?

Momma L- HUGE fan of period pieces. Loved Tess of Durbervilles, Middlemarch, North and South, Jane Eyre, Jane austen( all ) , Wuthering heights, He knew he was right, ,etc..Will try Cranford..

Teenmom-have you seen Gran Torino? It's a great Eastwood film. One of my favorites along with Heartbreak Ridge.

Saw The Kings Speech-:) It was fabulous, as all Colin Firth's movies are!

I don't know about you but I like to watch the old BBC period piece series when my husband is out of town. I love war, action, drama, indie, comedies... but the girly movies are great when I'm alone.

Middlemarch, North and South... all similar to the Jane Austen type of story.

My current favorite is Dangerous Beauty -- a period piece set in 16th century Venice about Veronica Franco, a famous courtesan and poet. Romantic, sexy, gorgeous, and well written.

Will you be going out or Netflixing it?
You got some good recommendations already. I also liked Secretariat. Have you seen Cranford? That's good. It's a period piece like North and South, etc. Funny though.

If you like Clint Eastwood, I loved Absolute Power and also In the Line of Fire. One of my repeat favorites is Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson.

You dig period pieces too? Besides the ones mentioned I recommend "Little Dorrit" (the more recent TV version with Matthew MacFadyen, NOT the feature film version from the 1980s). Terrific. Better yet read the book if you have time for the 1,000 pages!

Also great for period drama was the recent "Downton Abbey" mini-series. Have a lovely time in the past, Rae....

If you're going to the theater, I highly recommend The Help.
Contagion was good, but if you have the slightest tendency to be germaphobic, DO NOT see it. Really.
Crazy, Stupid Love was pretty good

To rent:
Limitless was pretty good.
The Young Victoria and The Other Boleyn Girl, Elizabeth, Elizabeth: The Golden Age - if you like historical fiction
The Blind Side
The Social Network

Well, the complete Star Wars set comes out on Blu-Ray tomorrow (all 6 movies.) If I had enough $ in the budget I'd get a Blu-Ray player & the set & camp out at home all week ;-)
