The Terminal, is a wonderful Tom Hanks romantic comedy. (No sex!) Miss Congeniality, Sweet Home Alabama, Mrs. Doubtfire, The Princess Bride, You've Got Mail, Charade
Hi Mamas-
I would like to buy my Great Aunt some DVDs for Christmas. She is a nun and complains she doesn't get any channels. She loves comedies but it is so hard to find appropriate movies for a nun! Everything seems to be about sex. She has a good sense of humor. She loved Meet the Parents...did not care for Meet the Fockers. Any suggestions would be great!
Happy Holidays:)
The Terminal, is a wonderful Tom Hanks romantic comedy. (No sex!) Miss Congeniality, Sweet Home Alabama, Mrs. Doubtfire, The Princess Bride, You've Got Mail, Charade
As Good As It Gets with Jack Nicholson
The Blind Side with Sandra Bullock
Julie and Julia with Meryl Streep
Enchanted with Amy Adams
Up its a Disney/Pixar movie
Bringing up Baby!
Any of those old Cary Grant movies!
Katherine Hepburn movies are great too.
How about classic TV series like I Love Lucy, Dick Nan Dyke, The Flying Nun etc.
Chrismas in Connecticutt is absolutely hilarious and quite clean....she may have seen it before but it's something that can be rewatched and rewatched!
How about the Chronicle of Narnia series? The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe and Prince Caspian.
What about older comedies? There are hints of sex, but a lot of them are just really really good movies. I grew up loving Cary Grant, Spencer Tracy, Katherine Hepburn, John Wayne, and such. Movies like Bringing Up Baby and Desk Set are fun and I can't remember anything inappropriate in them. I agree though it can be hard with newer comedies. I really liked Just Like Heaven because it was a really nice romantic movie (reminds me of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, but of course not as great) but there was no sex in it.
simon birch is a great movie.
I love the digital animated flicks! Even though I am predisposed to watching them with 2 little ones, I still prefer them to many "adult" type films. They are lighter, humorous and just fun! And Mallory P. has a great suggestion, The Blind Side. It was amazing and altering.
The only movie coming to mind at the moment is one of my favorites. "What Dreams May Come" with Robin Williams. There is no sex in it, it's about a man that literally goes to hell to save his wife.
I really like the movie The Family Man with Nicolas Cage. Very cute, charming and lots of funny scenes and nothing racy. Also the Anne of Green Gables movies are so great. Lots of humor and very touching. I also like Anne of Avonley. The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is fantastic, some humor but mostly focuses on good triumphing over evil from a christian perspective, based on the book written by C.S. Lewis, which she has likely read. Oh also Return to Me with Minnie Driver is like my all time fave. It is hilarious and has nothing bad in it. The last one I can think of right now is My Big Fat Greek Wedding. There are so many good ones, but hopefully these help! I also just thought about Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice.
There is a whole slew of movies from the 1940's-1960's that are great. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof with Elizabeth Taylor; Gone with the Wind; Anything with Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Gregory Peck, Katherine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, Alfred Hitchcock movies; Singing in the Rain; Anything with Audrey Hepburn. How about Star Wars? My mother has been renting Little House on the Prairie (the TV series) for my 95 YO grandmother. If you are asking for current movies I think you're barking up the wrong tree - there isn't much out there. The only new movies I watch are the Harry Potter series and Lord of the Rings. The rest has too much nudity and bad language - as I get older I feel as if I'm wasting my time to watch such junk.
Harry Potter. It's not just for kids!
Hi,
My mom is a devout Christian and hard to buy movies for. I believe she uses the "Focus on the Family" website to direct her choices. Good luck!

Grown Ups, August Rush, The Waitress, What's Cooking?( a great holiday movie) The Cat in the Hat with Mike Meyers is funny( I enjoyed watching it) Maid in Manhattan, The Wedding Planner, The Godfather 1,2,3, Julie & Julia, It's Complicated, Mall Cop, Sleepless in Seattle, An Affair to Remember.
I got my Mom a DVD of the Carol Burnette Show and she loved it. I loved that show as a child and it still makes me laugh my head off when I can catch it on a special.
I second the harry potter movies. The whole basis of good vs evil and the ultimate good overcoming is always a great message.
our daycare lady is a former nun and she loves the midsummer mysteries, which are a british show. She also loves Keeping Up Appearances, another british show, a comedy. My husband loves it also, but it's a kind of humor that makes me uncomfortable, like Michael on the Office.
