Hi All,

I've heard about theaters that do movies you can take your small children to...Is it "Moms and Movies?" Where do you find these places? How old were your kids when you started going? I'd like to take my daughter to see Shrek the Third - she'll sit through a movie on my lap at home so I thought I'd give it a whirl...

What can I do next?

Congrats! I think now would be a great time for you your hubbie and you two cutie pies to see a movie. Your infant will just sleep or want to be fed. You just have to pick a good time to go. Your two year old will love being there with mommy and daddy. We took our two when my daugter had just turned 2 and my son was only about 7 months to see Cars. My daughter loved the movie and sat on her daddie's lap until the last 15 minutes when she decided a nap was totally called for and my son slept through the beginning on my lap and woke up in the end and sat there and enjoyed watching it. All I know is my daughter loved it, my hubbie loved it and I thought it was cute watching them all watch part of the movie. It was a pretty good experience altogether. Since then, I've taken my now three year old to movies including Shrek 3 on weekends when Daddy has time with my son who's younger. We try to be fair about how many time each goes out. But, it just gets easier after 2, trust us!
Again, congratulations!

I took my son every week to the Crown Theaters in Village crossing. They call it Movies for Moms and it was a great experience. I only brought him till he was about 6 months. After that he would no longer sleep during the movies. They play a different movie every week so you may have already missed Shrek at this point. There is some more info at Crowntheaters.com.

It is called Reel Moms. I know they have movies in the city and at Old Orchard (and probably other places). I believe on Wednesdays. I can't remember. It is good up until the babies are like 3/4 months. It is so nice to go and get out of the house. I couldn't find a link but maybe someone else knows it. Congrats on the baby boy!!

in regards to reel moms suggestion from other mom, the program was discontinued when amc and cineplex merged. kinda of a bummer since it was really nice to not have people staring at you when your baby was screaming and didnt mind you breastfeeding. most am movies are pretty empty though. have fun and good luck!

I used to take my daughter when she was younger. I think I took her to her first one when she was about a couple of months and we went to them pretty much up until she started crawling and getting more active where she wouldn't sit still anymore. It's really nice. The movie is not as loud and they keep some lights on so you can see your little one, change a diaper, etc... if you need to during the show. I think most of the Kerasote theatres over Movies for Moms on Tuesdays and the Crown Theatres offer them on Wednesday. There is a place in Vernon Hills, the theatre in the Glen in Glenview offers them and I know the theatres out by Woodfield use to but I'm not sure if the Woodfield one still does or not. They had stopped for awhile. I found them by going to the theatres websites and just calling around to the local theatres by me. Good luck & I hope that helps. Have fun and enjoy the movie.

I'm sure you can find a theater near you that has an early showing for shrek, once she gets tired of watching the movie she will have fun watching the kids. I didn't look every week but I don't recall reel moms having kids shows, it is more so Mom and/or Dad can watch the grown up movies in a child friendly place, they keep the lights brighter, sound lower and an usher to get you or help you carry snacks. My hubby and I went a bunch of times when they kids were babies it was alot of fun, like a mini date, we would try and time it so it would be baby's nap time:)
