Local grocery stores, Wal-Mart, Target! They're all very willing to give these away! You just have to tape up because they usually break them down pretty quickly! If you want to pay for some, Sam's has the VERY BEST boxes for moving and they're VERY reasonably priced!

Register with www.freecycle.org. Lots of people post moving boxes they are giving away on that site.

Good luck
and
Merry Christmas

Craigslist if the best. I have put advertisements there for free boxes and they are usually gone within a few hours.

I have some boxes from a move over the summer. It probably won't be enough for the entire move but I have enough to crowd my garage. Let me know if you would like them.

Go to McDonalds and ask them to save the french fry boxes
for you. You have to come back at the time they tell you
as they break down boxes for recycling. These are double
ply and have had nothing in them except a plastic bag. I've moved with them numbers of times as they are not too
heavy for women to lift after being filled.

Dear J.,
Most Wal- Mart stores will save them for you but you have to go down and talk to a member of management. Ask them if they will save you boxes for you to move most of them will. At least the one here in Brownwood will. Most of them work on the same idea to please the customer.Good luck hope this helps.

You can join freecycle.org which is kind of like Craig's List only it's free. You can narrow it down by joining a group in your specific area. They have daily postings of things that are being given away and I always see a posting for moving boxes.

Look in the "free" section of Craigslist.com. They always have people giving them away.

Check with some of your local realtors. They will know of people who are moving into new places and usually they want to get rid of their boxes AND the packing paper . . . all you have to do is pick them up.

You can check with grocery stores, they have all sizes. Find out best time to go pick it up before they crush it. I always go there.

Public schools serve pizza on Tuesdays in GP and maybe Arlington. The boxes are sturdy, square and wonderful. Call and ask a kitchen manager to save them for you and go pick them up for free.

Our local Uhaul store has a section of free boxes - these are Uhaul and moving boxes that people have used and are done with... the selection varies but the last time I went in (to buy some), they had a TON of them for free that had only been used 1 time and were in perfect shape... I took a ton home with me and only purchased 2 boxes (there were none that day in a certain size that I wanted for free)...GREAT thing to check out! T.

I have moved so MANY times in the past several years, here's my suggestions.

NEVER use boxes that are used for food items, such as ones from grocery stores. Often these boxes are stored in refrigerators and have been subjected to moisture which softens the fibers. They almost always break.

Check out Craigslist.org - people move all the time and a lot of people advertise their used moving boxes, some free, others for a fee. Just check back everyday. Also consider placing an ad for boxes on craigslist too.

Ask neighbors. Have you had someone move into your neighborhood recently? If so, just ask, even if you don't know them. You may be surprised. They might have tons of boxes sitting around, but just haven't found time to get rid of them.

Drive around your neighborhood on recycling day. In my city (Plano), people can put their flattened boxes out for recycling pick up. Pick them up provided it's not raining or wet/damp.

If you don't find enough boxes or ones that meet your requirements, you can buy boxes reasonably at Lowes or Home Depot.

I hope this helps!

I always got to a grocery store. They have them in the back behind the swinging doors. They usually throw them away. I have gone to Albertsons several times and gotten about 25 - 30 boxes at a time. Don't ask at the front of the store. Go to the back where the produce section is and ask one of the guys that work back there. I tell them that Steve or whoever you want is saving them for me and they will take you back and find boxes for you. Hope this helps. T. O'Connor ###-###-####
