Moving from Oklahoma to L.A.

Help! I'm moving from Oklahoma to Los Angeles at the first of the new year. I am currently working full-time but I am scared about finding childcare in such a big city, so I am considering staying at home with my (now) 11 month old son. How am I going to meet friends? How will my son socialize? Any advice from those who have experienced the same thing OR advice from experienced L.A. mothers. Thanks!

What can I do next?

HI G.,

I suppose now you have moved. How do you like it here? It must be very different from Oklahoma. I live in the West Hollywood area and I do have a lot of good outing recommendations for this area. But LA is a big place so if you're interested in Hollywood area things to do please send me a message!

Hi G.,

Congrats on your move to L.A. I hope you love it! I met a mommy friend here at mamasoure and we try to get together with our boys, they're both 2 1/2, about once a month or so. Hopefully you can also find a mamasource mommy just like you to hang out with. Or if you need any advice about L.A. please let me know, I've lived here for 32 years. There's a lot of cool things to do with your little one..

M. :)

Is your 3 yr. still napping? I have a 3 1/2 yr. old, and as much as love that she still likes to nap, she ends up staying up late or wants to wake up too early. I find that if I cut her naptime down or eliminate it entirely on certain days, she sleeps much earlier and longer. I now have to be creative w/ afternoon time or unfortunately keep her in pre-school longer beginning in January.

(I'm sorry this was for 3 yr. old that wakes up early issue - I must have hit the wrong reply button. PLEASE IGNORE!)

I met most of my mommy friends through my local MOMS Club. There are chapters in almost all the cities. I believe their website is MOMSClub.org and you can see if there is one in your area. And I met a lot of friends through church and also mommy and me classes. Welcome to L.A.!

Hello,

We moved to LA from San Francisco when our baby girl was 6 weeks. She's 4 months now. A great way to meet friends is to join mommy groups.
There are some good ones through The Pump Station (pumpstation.com), and there's a great breast feeding support group at Verdugo Hills Hospital (in Glendale) on Thursdays from 10am-12noon.
I'm not sure where exactly your moving to, but if you're anywhere near either of these places you should check them out.
Good luck with the move!
