Moving, Seeking Preschools, Pediatricians, Dentists, Etc.

I am planning on moving to the Clearwater area in September, I have only visited the area once, so I am a complete novice when it comes to how to go about looking for preschools, doctors, dentists, anything at all for my son. I also have never made a state to state move before and although we have lived in a few different apartments, and houses and my son has dealt well with all of the moves before, he is older now and more aware of what is going on. I am a bit concerned about the transition from Massachusetts to Florida for him. I am looking for any advice at all on the move, or any of the above topics, I have done some looking online into preschools and what not, but am having a little trouble, and would greatly appreciate any tips and/or opinions on specific schools/preschools, pediatricians, pediatric dentists, anything to help me out. Also, not only just for him, I am realizing that such a big move will mean finding a new doctor, dentist, gyno, and everything for myself. My boyfriend that we (my son and I) will be moving in with is a good guy, but he has no children of his own so unfortunately is not a lot of help in these areas. Also, any tips or advice at all about the area that any of you have would be great, like I said, only been once and don't know really anything about the area at all. I kind of jumped into the decision to move, and although I am completely sure about moving and starting over, I am feeling a bit overwhelmed with everything involved with getting stuff situated before I get there.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I just want to thank all of you for all of your advice and suggestions. I have so much planning to do, and knowing who to call and where to get information helps out and makes things so much easier. I am planning to come down in June sometime to try to get some stuff set for the official move, hopefully that will all go smoothly. I'll let you all know how things progress. Thank you again.

Hi, and welcome soon to Florida. I live in the Pinellas Park area (a neighbor of Clearwater). Ok, for Dr.'s, I use St. Petersburg Pediatrics, Dr. Cibran. St. Petersburg Ped. has many of different offices all over with alot of Doctors. I have been to one that I did not like. But, where I go now I think their office and staff are great. I have had no problems with them. They are open from 8 am - 7 pm and even open on the weekends. They except walk ins and are easy to get an appointment, and I have never sat and waited for an extended period. Now, as far as preschools, are you set on a preshcool? We do have plenty of good licensed home daycares that offer good cirriculums. I have a home childcare myself. But, when you get ready, you could call the Pinellas County License Board for resource and referral to get a list of providers in your preferred areas. Now, for dentists, I like going to Dr. Worman and Worman in St. Pete. I went there as a child myself and now my children are. They are a great dentist for children. I hope this help a little. Good luck. K.

hello A., your so young and making a BIG step so soon...not to get off the subject or anything but i really hope you have dated this guy and checked him out before all of a sudden Moving in with him! I really don't have alot of advice for Dr.'s in clearwater being all mine are in tampa! but to get your little guy ready for this BIG Jump and a New Start....I would start preparing him now and talk as much as possible about to kinda make him feel as if he is gonna have alot more fun and that he'll make new friends easily etc...
but you also want his opinion about it so i would ask him what he thinks of moving...different school....friends....living arrangments with a guy in the home.....etc...
he may let you know good or bad things but be open to what he has to tell you and put it in consideration of what he wants and needs to be comfortable! it is not all about the mommies and daddies we have to think about our children feel.
I know this is not his dad but i am hoping that this man is willing to accept him as his and treat him well. if you ever need someone to talk to or need advice please hunni i have been there and done that ....have children and marriage so please feel free to contact me! anytime OK

OH....P.S. make sure you invite all his friends there to his going away / birthday party in July so he can tell them!
Happy Birthday Lil' man

Hi A.,

I agree with Melodi about knowing this guy well enough. I was a single mom at your age and life was difficult enough being a mom let alone trying to have a relationship on top of it... You really have to be careful about where your heart is... I thought I knew what I was doing when I moved hours away from my family with a guy and we (my son and myself) ended up in a very VERY bad place. You need to guard that baby's heart. I regret alot of things that I let my son go through and see at such a tender age. I am 33 years old now and my son is 14... We have a family now PRAISE GOD...but it was a very bumpy road and we still have issues that we deal with every day.

I can give you advice on the stuff that you asked for but I think that you should take another look at moving not just hours but states away from your family, the people that are able to back you up when you are in the need. You are moving to Florida with no one to babysit when you need a break, no family to come and sit with you when you get homesick...TRUST ME... I have been here for almost 2 years from New Jersey...It is tough when I got homesick.

I am sorry to dump this all on you but I really think that you need to think about this type of thing VERY VERY hard. If you pray, PRAY... "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Acknowledge him in all you do and HE will direct your paths." Proverbs 3:5-6
I will be praying for you! and If you want to talk more let me know and I will be more then happy to.

Take Care and God Bless you and your son.

Hi A.,

I've lived in Clearwater area for about five years now and I've looked everywhere and done TONS of research and have visited many ALL of the preschools and doctors in the area. A few of my friends with children recomended a preschool and doctor that I absolutely love (far better than any others I've seen). The preschool is called Primavera Preschool on Tampa Road in Oldsmar and the doctor's office I love is East Lake Pediatrics (i believe is listed in oldsmar as well). I'm not sure if this is around the are you are looking into, but if it is I highly reccomend these two.
Remember....as with anything you will ultimately need to chose places you feel comfortable with...good luck with the move and your future!

A.,
I went to college in Clearwater. It is a nice town. I am not sure about Dr.s over there, but I do know a WONDEFUL pediatric dentist. I drive from Carrollwood to see her for my three kids. Her name is Dr. Donna Nichols. She has two offices in that area. Her number: ###-###-####.
Hope all goes well.

Hi A.,

We moved from Milford, MA about 5 years or so ago, and ended up here in Clearwater. I now have a 4 y/o and a 2 y/o (both girls). I can't be of any help on preschools because I am currently looking into it myself. But I absolutely love my pediatrician. I take the girls to Suncoast Pediatrics. They are great, there are like 4 or 5 Dr. in the practice, and when you call with just a question or concern, they always call you right back. They are on West Bay in Clearwater.

What part of MA are you from?
