I am moving to connecticut and will be working in Stamford. Anyone have any suggestions of where I should look to live that is not going to be a 2 hour commute and that has good schools? I prefer to live in CT over NY.

What can I do next?

I grew up in Greenwich. That should be your first choice although its expensive. Fairfield is also nice as is Stratford, New Canaan, Ridgefield, ect. They are all good, just don't live in Bridgeport. I would stick with Fairfield County.

Just answered your other question. I would live in a town that has a train. Fairfield (has great schools), Stratford (where we live, but I don't think I would recommend stratford schools- we plan to move when our kids are older), Westport (great schools), Trumbull - not on a train, but my SIL lives their and drives to bridgeport daily to take train to stamford. She has a house very close to 15 entrance. Trumbull has good schools. I don't know much about the towns up past Westport/Southport since I am originally from WI and only moved here 7 yrs ago. Norwalk has some good and some not so good areas. I don't know about their schools. Greenwich, New Canaan, and others in that area I am sure have good schools and are nice towns, however are VERY expensive. That's why we ended up in Stratford. Good Luck on your search. CT is a bit different from WI. Feel free to email me on the side if you have any other questions.

Our family just moved to CT from MO in February. We are an hour north of Stamford. I'm not sure about the schools because our daughter is two, but I will say definitely avoid Waterbury and I would avoid any of the larger cities from everything I have seen on the news and what we have seen from visiting. The suburbs are nice and it is quite beautiful outside of the cities. We live closer to Southbury than Waterbury and I am very thankful for that now that we are settled and I've been around. Good luck and welcome to CT!

Darien would be my choice. Greenwich is also nice but I know nothing about their schools - but I can't imagine them not being good. All their restuarants, shops and events are wonderful!

Hi M.-
It all depends on what you're seeking in a town. Fairfield County is probably your best bet if you want a shorter commute. I agree with Sara about Fairfield and Trumbull. New Canaan is a great town and has fabulous schools but is pricey. If you went a little further north, like Ridgefield or Wilton, you still have great schools and not so pricey houses. Norwalk is nice but the school system is tough. I grew up near New Haven and have spent many many years living in CT (we moved back here because of the schools). I'm happy to give you any more info or answer any questions-just email me!
Good luck.
K.
