Moving to DFW Need Advice on Schools

We have twins 9 and a 13yo plus horses. We have narrowed our house search based on schools and are looking at Flower Mound, Lucas (Lovejoy ISD) and Heath (Rockwall ISD.

Does anyone have any comments or opinions on these schools and areas? I'm a SAH mom and my husband either works at home or is on planes 2-3 times a month so traffic and location isn't too critical.

Thank you!

So What Happened?

Wow! It's only been a couple of hours and I already have three very encouraging responses! Thank you, Ladies. I can't wait to hear others, too.

We have 41 days until we have to be out of our present home. My husband is leaving Thursday to buy us a home - hopefully in Flower Mound or Double Oak. I've been so worried about making the right decision for our family. All of you who have taken the time to respond have been very reassuring and comforting at a maximum stress time. Blessings to all.

Maureen,
I live in Highland Village which is adjacent to Flower Mound. It is a great place to live. There is a wonderful library, great schools, good places to eat and really great neighbors. It is more of a community that other places I have lived. Good luck

Hi Maureen! Welcome to N. Texas! I had to respond to this because I really love Flower Mound. I'm from Northern California and would much rather be living in Austin! But if Austin isn't a choice, then I recommend Flower Mound. The schools are top rated. But most importantly Flower Mound was recently recognized as one of the top communities in the country! It ranked #5 among the best in a book called “Best Places to Rise Your Family: The Top 100 Affordable Communities in the U.S.” It was based on demos, standard of living, education, lifestyle, health and safety.

Also back in 2003, Money Magazine names Flower Mound as the NUMBER 1 Best Place to Live in Texas!

Best of luck to you! S.

Maureen,
Hi! The reason we picked Flower Mound was because of the schools and how well they are ranked. Flower Mound is great area, we have been here about a year. We live in the Wellington Area and it is a lovely area. They are still doing construction in the area plus there are areas of Flower Mound that still farms with horses. Since your husband flys often its not that far from DFW airport. My husband flies out of there about once a week. Welcome to Texas. If you need anything let me know.

Maureen,

I believe Flower Mound is close to the north Fort Worth school named Bluebonnet. It has the best reputation of any school around, so I hear. My kids go there and we really like that school. We moved to north Fort Worth just so we could attend this school. It is in the Keller school district.

I am a teacher in the Lewisville ISD which serves Flower Mound. I am also a graduate of Marcus HS in Flower Mound. I love this area! I have lived here for 25 years. The school district is awesome. Many if not most of the Flower Mound located schools are exemplary. My children are 18 (recent grad of Flower Mound HS), 15, 6 and 4 1/2.

Flower Mound is still growing so keep that in mind when you pick location in town. FM 2499 is due to have construction heading North of FM 1171. FM 1171 is scheduled for construction work this winter.

Good luck!
