Hi A., I am in Germany as well. I have never been to Ft Campbell but, I have a friend who is former active duty and lives in KY. If you want I can hook you 2 up. Just let me know.
I was just wondering if anyone has been stationed at Ft. Campbell. We just found out that we are moving there in 3 months and I'd like to know some information if anyone would like to share!!!! I'm wondering about housing and what is around the area! Thanks!
Thanks everyone with all the responses! I'm sure that we will do just fine there! I have so much information about the area now! Thanks again!

Hi A.! We were stationed at Ft Campbell for 6 yrs, just moved here to Germany a year ago. I have some information that may help you, I can scan it for you and email it to you if you'd like. Housing on post usually as a waiting list...its a huge post with lots of soldiers..but there are plenty of rental homes or apartments off post close by. I can tell you where to stay away from...I wish someone would have told us when we moved there, because we ended up in a bad area, and really didn't know it.
Feel free to email me, I'd love to help you!!

A.,
YAHOO! I am so excited for you! We are in England and we came from Ft Campbell where my husband was stationed for 5 years! We loved it!
As some other mamas have already mentioned, I also could tell you some areas to stay away from, but don't worry too much, the housing office will tell you which areas to stay away from b/c they have been bad news for Soldiers. Onbase housing shortages? I don't know about that, they just built LOTS of new houses about 2-3 years ago, so I am not sure if housing shortage is still a problem. I will tell you that the housing is very nice though (what I've seen at least ;-)
BUT with the housing allowance, I am sure you can afford a nice place off base and the military will pay your mortgage, why not?
We did buy a house that we rent now, so basically we haven't payed a penny for it, the Army and our renters have taken our mortgage bill, it is a good investment, but it all depends on yall's preference.
That area is getting so much larger so fast, it is not like Fayetville, NC (surrounding Ft Bragg) that wouldn't be much without the military. It is huge! I have heard it called "the next Nashville" b/c it is so big, BUT there can be downsides to that as well, for instance overpacked schools is a big one! But that shouldn't affect you with a (will be) 9 month old.
There is a lot in the surrounding area and there is ALWAYS free stuff going on for military whether onbase or off. They are a proud military supporting community.
One other downside is that it is rapid-deploying. BUT the family support there I've found is awesome!
The PWOC is huge & they have childcare, while I was there the fitness center was free if your spouse was deployed... and they have childcare. (not the regular "army gym" those are always free I think-- this is a little nicer) The pools onbase are free for military and open all summer long, great exercise, good fun & good for a baby too :-).
Gosh, what can I tell you? I loved it, we ALL loved it there, i miss it so much! But of course, there are always people at every base who HATE it, it all depends on your outlook, & making the best of it :-)
Do you have any specific questions? I would love to give you specific answers if I can :-)
Oh & I forgot to add that my friend Ginny G is on mamasource and they are still at Campbell, so maybe she can help you too! :-)
Good luck & God bless!

Hi there,
No i'm not in Ft.Campbell, but i grew up near there. It is right next door to Clarksville,TN which has a ton of stuff to do, theres the mall, toys r us, target, 2 wal-marts, lots of dollar stores, and tons of other shopping. Don't worry you will not be short of things to do or places to go. Sorry i can't help w/ the housing questions but i hope this helps. Good luck w/ the move and Gob Bless,
J.
