We are relocating to Lincoln without visiting. We found a neighborhood that has CHEAP housing. The neighborhood is Arnold Heights. 3miles North of I-80 off of 48th st. Does anyone know if this is a good neighborhood for my family? Please advise! Thanks!!!

Welcome to Lincoln!! As some others said - it's a great family town and has a wonderful public school system. The south side of town is a little nicer - but is also pricier. I have lived both North and South - I prefer south, but it's again pricier, and my husband is from the north and prefers it, so we're living in the NE now. North side of town has a lot of new construction. Arnold Heights isn't a bad area of town, but parts of it do tend to appear more run down (hence the really cheap housing). Again, it's not a bad area - there is new housing and business construction - but it is an older part of town, and as someone else said was built for military housing. So just make sure you go into with that realization. In other words - as long as you have realistic expectations with the pricing - you won't be disappointed. HTH!!

Welcome, in advance, to Lincoln! Great community...

I'm familiar with both north and south Lincoln, and much prefer the south side of town. We're far south and within walking distance of our outdoor mall, grocery, and the grade school (Cavett) is blocks from our home as well. I have also lived north - two blocks from Nebraska Wesleyan University (when working for the school). I now stay home with three - 16 months, 29 months and 7 years. I'd prefer to be on the south side of town with kiddos. Just my opinion, but I've been in Lincoln for 38 years.

Holler at the Convention and Visitor's Bureau for information regarding the community in general.

Hello. I live in Lincoln and our children go to a daycare provider in the Arnold Heights area. I think it is a good area. There is a lot of newer construction going up in that area. They just got a new Russ's supermarket and there is more stuff going up. The east side of NW 48th St is the newer construction and the west side of NW 48th is most of the older construction. A lot of the homes in the NW area were built for military housing. We actually looked for homes in that area when we were looking to buy a home.

Keep in touch after you move, maybe we can meet and get to know each other. I have lived in Lincoln for a number of years now, but don't have a ton of friends - just too busy sometimes.

Are you going to school or your husband?

Hello A. and welcome to Lincoln! I've lived in Lincoln for over 15 years and have 2 kids (one in school). LPS (Lincoln Public Schools) is a great school system.

As far as Arnold Heights area. It is a little farther out of town and so you will have to drive a decent amount to get to shopping but you can hop on the Interstate or Hwy 70 and get to North or South Lincoln in about 10-15 minutes.

There is a nice new grocery store and the area is growing. There is a new area with brand new construction and also houses that were building in the 50's on up. I'm not sure which type of houses you are looking at, some are pretty run down. I know that Arnold Heights is getting a brand new school that will either be opening for the 09-10 school year or the 10-11 school year.
I have a couple of friends that live in that area and seem to like it.
We live in the very North part of Lincoln and really enjoy it also.
Once again welcome to Lincoln!!! :-)
