I have family in Pheonix, Mesa, Tucsan & the Surprise area. It is truly beautiful there, but being from NJ my whole life I can't give up the snowy winters & leaves changing colors in the fall.

We looked into moving there many times and I know that there is snow in Flagstaff & Mt. Lemon, but it just hasn't happend yet for us. From what I saw Surprise was the nicest. The homes were in their own community, kind of their own neighborhoods if you know what I mean. Sure a gated community would be nice, but Surprise just didn't seem too busy & had a lot of children around. One thing I've been told by my sister-in-law in Tucsan is that the schools are really overpopulated. Well, I wish you all the luck making your move out there, I'm actually quite envious. I would love to live by more family, but first the housing market has to cooperate so we could unload our house!

I live in the East Valley, Gilbert, which is known for its school district. Personally, there seems to be more crime that you hear about in the West Valley. Please keep my contact info, I own an insurance agency and do home, auto, life, health, commercial, Aflac and travel to Mexico. I have to warn you that AZ is second highest in auto insurance rates after NY so it will benefit you to shop your insurance and I can help with that. Property values are excellent right now, great deals to be had (although Gilbert is still pretty high). If you need a realtor, let me know, I have a great one. My website is http://www.AgentLady.com if you need to contact me. You will like it here, it's hot but great in the winter and lots of things to do with the family as well. Good luck and let me know if I can help!

I've lived here my whole life. I live in Goodyear (West Valley). If you're planning on homeschooling, the west valley is great with lots of homeschool groups and co-ops. But if you're planning on putting your children in school, I've heard nothing good about the schools in Goodyear, Avondale and Buckeye, which is probably why the homeschool groups are so big..LOL The housing is cheap, cheap, cheap... my 5 bedroom, 4 bathroom house is worth $140K... The job market isn't very good but it's pretty and you can drive a couple hours north to get out of the heat. There are lots of activities and plenty to do, even though the economy isn't that great. There are certain areas that you do not want to live in because of the crime so be sure to ask people before buying a house.
