Hi, we are moving from Hawaii to San Antonio in about 2 months. I need advice on a good preschool/ daycare for my soon to be 4 year old daughter. Also any tips on what areas are good for families, we've heard of stone oak and Helotes. My concern is to choose a good neighborhood with good public schools.

What can I do next?

NISD is the better school district. I live near helotes and our public schools are great. Children are not at fault for their financial status. Calling a child ghetto comes from uneducated adults. You will have different types of children everywhere, but some schools will have definitely more resources than others and will be more likely to offer a better education and hopefully they will turn into adults that don't refer to children as ghetto.

In my opinion North Side ISD is very good, but it also depends on which part of the North Side district you live in, the closer you get to the Loop 410 area and inside the loop the more ghetto the kids get,
North Side ISD closer to Loop 1604 and outside of that the better.
the area just by Sea World is good. But not knowing much, you would have to look into the area you think is good and research the schools. you can use Zillow, it will tell you what schools are assigned to that address and the ranking on a scale from 1-10

NEISD has excellent schools. The Stone Oak area can be a traffic nightmare, but there are several other neighborhoods that are still outside of Loop 1604 that feed into great schools, with fewer traffic headaches.

Stone Oak far to the north and really really crowded and rush hour is a total mess morning and afternoon. Helotes is very nice and affordable but once again very very far north. Commutes from both these places are long.

I am guessing you a military so you need to look at what base you will be working.

The area that is very popular and more convenient is what some of us locals call the "golden rectangle". North of 410, south of 1604, and in-between I10 and I35. This does cover a lot of area but it keeps you more mobile. Get a good map of San Antonio and look at it.

The nicer areas are north central.

We just lost one of our military families on our street this past summer. Really nice family and great kids.

If you want to pm me with a list of areas you are looking I can get a lot more specific.

NEISD is also a good district. I have worked for them and my kids go to school there. But if you are only going to be here a few years and only need daycare/preschool, it really opens up your options of areas.
