Moving to the Sl/mo/sienna Plantation Area - Need Ob/gyn Recs

Hi! My husband, 15 month old children and I are moving to the area this summer. We're relatively new to the Houston area (currently leasing in The Woodlands) and still getting a feel for where in Houston we want to settle.

Can someone please recommend an ob/gyn? I do prefer female as my primary but considering that I had a great experience having our twins delivered by her male partner, I'm ok with male, too.

Thanks for your help!
B

I use Dr. Deanna McDonald at Sugar Land OB/GYN Associates. There are 2-3 other doctors in the practice that are male, but Dr. McDonald is my OB. I really like her! She didn't end up delivering my son, but I was also VERY pleased with Dr. Patel who did end up delivering him. Dr. Patel is male, but he has a great demeanor and actually made my delivery very comfortable. He talked to my hubby like they were old buddies, so put him at ease too. I would highly recommend this practice. I live in Sienna Plantation and their office is about 20 minutes away (with traffic) by the Sugar Land Methodist Hospital, which is where I delivered.

Good luck with your move. I hope you like Sienna. We've been here about 2 years and I really enjoy it.

Hi B., I live in Sugar Land and the absolute best OB/Gyn is Dr. Nguyen ###-###-####. I was recommended to him by all of the nurses at a nearby hospital (they use him too). I actually switched OB/Gyn's when I was 32 weeks pregnant because I wasn't satisfied with the previous doc. that I had been seeing for 8 yrs. He just got too busy, my waiting time to see him was long and there was no guarantee that he would've delivered my baby since he is on call with 3 other doctors. Dr. Nguyen delivers all of his own babies & even gives you his cell phone#... He is fabulous and 3 other people I know switched to him too. His staff is great too!
Let them know that M. Posey sent ya :)

My ob is Duc Lee with Sugar Land Ob/gyn and associates. He is male, but he is wonderful. There are two other doctors in the practice as well. Dr. Patel who is male is awesome too. He is the dr. that actually deliverd my last son and then there is a female Dr. Deanna McDonald. I saw her several times during my last pregnancy, once during an unexpected hospital stay. It was on a Sunday and I was having a pregnancy meltdown because the baby was not moving and she came all the way up to the hospital to spend time with me and talk to me until they could figure out why he was not moving. I thought that said alot about her as a dr and as a person. She was wonderful. Since I have had experiece with all three dr.'s I highly recommend either one.

I also recommend Dr. Duc Le and Dr. Mcdonald. I actually wanted Dr. Mcdonald (a lady) but she was booked up when I was preggers the first time so I went with Dr. Le and stuck with him. She helped deliver my twins 3 years later and did a few appointments when Dr. Le was absent. Very good doctors. They're right by First Colony Mall.

I love my OB/Gyn her name is Dr. Laurie Swaim, she is associated with the Women's Hospital. She has an office at the Women's Hospital and also in Pearland on 518 at the Women's Place. Her office Houston Women's Care Associates is all women caring for women. I loved my experience delivering my son at The Women's Hospital. I like Dr. Swaim for multiple reasons. One I can understand her and she takes time to listen to me and I don't feel rushed. Although she does talk fast and has a lot of energy I know that is just part of her personality.

I love that she knows me when I walk in there even though I only see her once a year now. Her office staff is also great!

I hope you find a new OB that you like as much as I like mine!

I'm also moving to Sienna Plantation (in two weeks). I'm currently pregnant with my third and the name that keeps coming up when I ask for recommendations is The Women's Specialists of Houston. http://www.womenspecialists.com/ContactUs/tabid/63/Defaul... My second was delivered by a midwife and I like that this practice has both OBs and midwives for in-hospital deliveries. I'm even less familiar with Houston than you, as I've only been once and that was for house-hunting, so I can't make this recommendation based on personal experience. When I called, they said they do new patient orientations on Wednesday afternoons - it may be a good idea to go check it out and hear what they have to say. Good luck with your search and I'll keep my eye on responses to see if any other names come up.

I second Women's Specialists. I've never used them but I know many who have and St Lukes (where they deliver) seems to be one of the more mama/baby friendly hospitals.

I can't drive downtown for apts, though, so I have an apt with Dr Huebner next week. He and some of the drs in his practice see patients downtown AND in Sugarland. He also delivers at Methodist Sugarland, Memorial Hermann on 59, Methodist downtown and MAYBE Memorial Hermann downtown although it's not on the website.

Anyway, he was recommended to me and I'll update my post to say what I think of him.

I have delivered once at UTMB and 3 times at Women's and I don't recommend those hospitals. I know others who were OK with UTMB but they nearly caused me to loose my baby, be permanently paralyzed, ect. Really horrible experience.
