Hello everyone. I am 39 weeks pregnant and my mucous plug just fell out. =) Does this by any chance mean labor is really close for me? Or that I have begun to dilate? Last week I hadn't began to dilate any.. just curious to see if this means labor is close! Thanks.

What can I do next?

With my 1st baby, I lost my plug on the day I went into labor. With my 2nd baby I lost my plug 5 days before she was born. So I'd say no matter what, labor is impending especially since you are 39 weeks. I know the waiting is hard but it will be over all too soon. Congratulations and good luck!!!

Congrats on your upcoming arrival. I lost my plug a little over two weeks before giving birth. I was dialated to one at the time and shortly after went to three. Good luck~! :)

Hi K.!
I'm 38.5 weeks along with #5 due 5/17. With #1, I had a 1.5 week waiting period after the plug came out. I'd assume that means you have dialated :) Won't be long now!

Best wishes,

M.

Hi K.,

Congrats on your pregnancy! I have been teaching natural childbirth classes for 8 yrs. and I always tell me couples that loosing your mucus plug is the least likely sign that you are going into labor. Some moms can loose it 4 weeks before labor even begins. I have three children and I never saw it until my third and it was during labor while I was in the tub. It's also perfectly fine that you haven't dilated at all...I know several moms that had absolutley no dilation when they went into labor..that was me with my first :)

I was in the same boat as Misty, I lost mine about 2 weeks prior and still had to be induced. I hate to be discouraging, but don't get excited. :(

Congratulations! :)

I lost mine over a week before I actually had mine... and I've had friends that never lost their until they were in the hospital, and one that lost hers and went into labor the next couple of hours. :)

Just keep an eye on things, have that bag packed and your plan of action ready.... if you're not sleeping on something to protect your mattress at night -- I'd do that... :) You don't want your water breaking at night to ruin your mattress! :)

Hi K.,

Not sure how many responses you've received yet. This happended to me with my first child -- she's four now. I was about 37 weeks though and I gave birth at about 39 1/2 weeks. When this happened I didn't know what was going on and I actually thought my water broke so my husband and I rushed to the hospital immediately. We found out that it was the mucus plug and I was sent home. From my understanding this is just another sign that labor is near. I hope things are going well with you and I wish you good luck on your labor and birth of your baby girl.

Take care,
A.

I lost my plug a couple of weeks before delivery, and even then I had to be induced. I think the people who first said that losing your plug means labor in 24 hours did it just to drive pregnant women crazy! I lost mine, and that's what everyone told me. I was ready to go, and nothing happend. The next day, nothing happened. . . .It's already hard to be patient during those late weeks, and hearing that makes it worse. Just relax and enjoy where you are now. I know it's hard because you're so anxious to meet that little angel who has been a part of you for 9 months, but just try. Go get a great foot massage and pedicure, and she'll be here before you know it!!!

How exciting! I lost mine with my first when my water broke. With number 2. I went into labor at 21 weeks and I saw it come out in parts over a long period. I ended up having him at 39.5 weeks. Good luck. My doc always told me Labor Day was right around the corner.
