Mucous Plug Gone, How Long Before Labor?

So my books all say it could be awhile from the time you pass the mucous plug until labor actually begins. One book says a week or two. Anyone ever go that long after passing the plug?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for all the responses! I honestly can't remember what happened with my first. It has been a few days since I passed the plug and I am 3 cm dilated and 80 percent effaced. With this baby I have been on bed rest since week 23 and I want to make it until Friday which will be 37 weeks. Sounds like that could happen...or not! But I like having hope. Thank you!

Hi E.,

My personal experience was that I lost my plug at 5am, my water broke at 7am and I didnt start labor until 2pm
Everyone's body is different, some woman didn't even know when they lost they plug.
I was 38 3/4 when my son was born!

Good luck!

Not for me....Mine passed when I was using the restroom before going to bed around 11pm. I was at the hospital by 2am. It seemed like within 20 minutes I was having contractions

I lost mine 2 weeks before my first was born. I didn't lose it until I was in labor with my second and third. My OB tried stripping my membranes without my permission or knowledge with my first which is why I lost it in the first place I bet. But he wasn't ready to come out ;)

I went into labor 2 days after losing my plug and my baby was 23 days early. Doctor said I had nothing to worry about since it would be a few weeks. My daughter was considered a premie and had to stay in hospital 5 days. Good luck to you.

Lost mine 16 hours into labor and delivered within two hours from there. Everyone is different. Expect the unexpected when it comes to labor. Hardly anyone will follow what a book says.

I lost my mucous plug almost three weeks before I went into labor. It all depends on your body.

Depends how far along you are when it goes. My mom lost hers more than a month early and my sister was full term on her due date. I lost mine at the start of labor with one and during labor with the other.

Mine was only a few hours with my first child before labor started. It was ~24 hours before delivery.

Mine never dislodged with my daughter, but my water broke, and labor had to be induced to prevent infection.

Good luck! Congratulations on the new baby!

I lost mine DURING labor. Not before. Everyone is different. You just have to pay attention to what's going on down there. But rest assured, you WILL KNOW when you're in labor. :)

I lost mine 3 1/2 weeks early from my due date and I went into labor and delivered within 24 hours. I think it is different for everyone. I would notify your doctor, He or She will be able to best guide you.
