hi there
I have used multifocal lense for about a year now.. I use PROCLEAR because the materials they are made of seem to breathe better than Bausch and Lomb.. actually way better.. they are thinner..
now as for sight.. i have mixed feelings about it... I can read better up close but honestly, for me , nothing really works as well as my original 20/20 vision... :( or when I wear reading glasses. However, they do the trick pretty well. however, IF you use the computer a lot.. they can dry out (As even regular contacts do) so either.... give your eyes a break every 20 min.. or use re-wetting drops.. I find that my eyes do best in the contact for the first 4 hours.. then as the day progresses they just don't feel as comfy.. or fresh... sometimes I will take them out to re-wet them.. IF you do decide to get multi-focus which are much more expensive than regular lenses. shop around.. I used lens.com.... Try and get your eye doc to give you a FREE pair to wear for about a week to see how you like em.... you'll need about a week, because it does take some getting used to the prescription since it is for distance and close up.... (some will charge the actual price) about $30ish...... that is a lot to spend just to try them out ..so do ask FIRST if they are free or must you pay...
also... again, they do take some getting used to..
I also have just plain ol distance contacts, which yes, IF I want to read close up, I need glasses over them.. but that isn't so bad because some times I want a rest from the multi-focal lenses..
also.. I do highly recommed keeping your eyeglass prescription nearby... you never know when you want to wear glasses. even if just at night for t.v. viewing or reading.. they give your eyes a nice break and allow them to breathe..especially if you wear contact for many hours in the day..
again., the Proclear was best for me.. but there are many brands..
best of luck.. and remember DO shop around... the price range can really vary..
best of luck

I am farsighted and just got prescription lenses - my dr. said to wear the glasses until my far vision becomes clear with them on - which will only happen once my eyes are totally relaxed. I can see distance with them - just not quite as "sharp" - once I have adjusted to these - she said I can go to contacts. She did tell me that if I didn't start wearing these now - I would be in bifocals within 2 years...

Not sure if you are just using "readers" or if you have been to the eye dr.

If your optometrist is pretty experienced at fitting them, they can be great! They will probably take several follow ups to get the fit just right though. another option is doing monovision. One eye is corrected for distance and the other eye is used for up close. With both eyes open, the vision for distance and near is pretty clear.

I was not able to use the multi focal, as it always seemed blurry when I drove at night. I decided on monovision. With monovision, one eye is fit with a distance lens (if needed) and the other eye is fit with a near lens, providing clear vision for both distance vision and near.

This has worked great for me. Talk to your eye doctor about this.

This past Feb and March I tried the multi-focal contact lenses and I was determined that they would work. The eye doctor tried every single prescription possible with me and we could not find one that didn't make my distance vision blurry. I really gave it a good try and walked around with blurry vision hoping that my eyes would adjust. Unfortunately, it did not work out for me. Everbody is different, so give it a try, you never know!
