Multiple Birthdays in One Month

How do you handle multiple birthdays in one month? I have 3 children and myself born in the same month. I have 5 children total ages 14-20. It's seems to be getting harder to come up with birthday ideas and the cash for it. Any suggestions? My creativity is so taxed each year.

What can I do next?

Hi A.-

I have three sons and my (and my now ex hubby's) birhdays in april ( 6th, 13th and 19th for kiddos...and 25 for ex...)

When they were younger, I would do one party for the two closest in age in april...they would each invite several of their individual friends...and it was great. The April 6th birthday would wait til school was out and I would double up with his june 13th brother (they are only 14 months apart...)

Now they are all older, so it is easier...however the postmaster knows me by name as I was in weekly mailing packages...lol. Now the price of postage is likely to bankrupt me!

Best luck!

We have my mother, my brother, and my grandson 3 days in a row in April. And my mother and my sister's mother-in-law share the same birthday : ) So we have one big day with a BBQ or event of some sort (usually centering around the little guy) with cakes for all. This year was a little somber as my Dad passed in February, so we had a big day for the 3 year old and cake for each person on their special day.

Oh, and October is a doozie, too...a grandson, a granddaughter, three brothers, another grandson...you can only do what you can do! Why not have a big party for everyone to save money the month of the 4 birthdays, with a cake for each on their day?

I have 3 kids, and 2 have the same birthday, and the other one's birthday is barely a month earlier. We try to do a birthday outing, instead of a big party (way too expensive).
My oldest just had his 15th bday, we took him and a few friends to Venice skate park and to In N Out burgers after. They all loved it, and the entire tab (with gas to Venice and parking at Venice) was probably $75.
Last year for the younger two kids, we bought Sea World passes, not super cheap, but still way cheaper than two parties. Don't have that in the budget for this year though.
Knotts Berry farm is super fun for older kids and annual passes are about $60, so maybe you could just get your kids passes and they can go together. Not sure if you can afford that or not, but it's an idea, since you live so close.

Normally we have a BBQ at the grandparents house at some point for our kids' bdays, just to celebrate with family, and so they can have cake and blow out the candles :)

Another fun place to go if you just want to take your kids out to eat, instead of a party, is King's Hawaiian restaurant in Torrance on Sepulveda near Crenshaw. The food is YUMMY and the music makes you feel like you are in Hawaii for a couple hours.

Since they are getting older, you could have them each pick a month, but not their birthday month. that is there month to celebrate. You could even do something all month long for them, like if your 14 year old picked may for his /her month, then you could have one week where they skip chores, one week where they get extra curfew time... And then on the day of the month that is their b-day, that can be the party day. Then on the birthday month, you could either take them all out together or cook dinner and have one of their fav goods at dinnertime.

We have a birthday fund 3 of the 5 of us have birthdays in the same months and 1 more has a birthday only 2 weeks prior to said month.

Anyhow we have a birthday fund, my kids are much younger so no idea of birthday ideas but we do have a fund set aside so as to not have to worry as much on what we are spending.

Our birthdays are mostly in June and July. We budget for those birthdays.
I know those months we will be doing lots of celebrations.

Sometimes we have a family gathering for all of us, and sometimes we just go out to eat for each person.

The children always get their own celebrations with their friends, it is not their fault, we all get frisky in the fall.

Could you go out to dinner (birthday person's choice) for each child's special day? Yours included.

That way it's just one night for a few hours 4 times that month.

Or offer to take one child to dinner w/2 of their friends. The other kids stay home with dad.

As for the extra cash to fund this, how about using part of your tax return or save a little extra $ each month in a b-day fund? Just open 1 extra savings acct @ your bank. That acct will be for all 4 of your b-days.

My husband and two children have their birthdays in the same week! We usually throw a little barbeque at the house for all our family and friends on one day to celebrate all their birthdays.

We have 4 kids (younger than yours) and 3 of them + myself have birthdays within 2 months....as well as my mother and grandmother. Popular time of year for us fertile family. LOL

We just have family over for cupcakes/cake and presents. We never buy our kids presents. We also DO something with them....or give them a party within reason. One year my son wanted a zipline for the yard, so we got him that and no party...but we try to stay away from STUFF.

This year we are having kid #4's birthday celebration with family on the 20th from 11am-12pm and then kid #2's birthday celebration with family right after from 12-1:30pm. We have different decorations, so there will be a quick "costume change" with the $20 worth of decorations/plates/cups that I bought. We are taking kid #2 to Legoland with the family on homeschool (we do homeschool) day....so instead of it running us almost $500, it will only cost us $125 for the day.

We have limits and so does our entire family. I spend $35 on birthdays and $50 at Christmas. My mom spends $50 at birthdays and $100 at Christmas on each person. My MIL spends $25 on a present and then $50 for their savings accounts and $60 total cash for the her children and their spouses.

Ask them what they want to do and make sure it's with family....those memories will last a lifetime. If you don't care if it's with the family, then put $75 (or whatever you are going to spend) toward something, like a concert ticket and then have a family dinner where everyone MAKES a card. Those are the best. I scan everything given at birthdays and then I put them in a scrapbook at www.mixbook.com and each year, they get a new book....with everything from the year.

Whosever birthday it is doesn't have to do anything for that day. If they don't want to go to school, they don't. If they don't want to clean up their room, they don't. If they don't want to help with dishes, they don't. I find that even though they don't HAVE to do anything, they feel weird and still do a lot of things...but it's on their own accord. My parents did the same thing with us growing up and I didn't help with dishes, but I went to school, since that's where you get so much attention. LOL

I have two that are two days apart, and just a week before my mom's birthday. We just budget for it. Or try to combine if we can. We've done outings (like Disneyland), etc instead of parties.

But, at our age, almost 50, it's the friends "50th" shindigs that are killing us! Just this month: One 50th about 4 hours away; so gas to get there, a hotel to stay overnight, a gift, and drinks - not cheap. Another 50th in town at a fancy restaurant, cost us $150/couple plus the gift. And there's another one coming up in little more than a week! And another one in December. And my hubbies 50th (and our 25th wedding anniversary) is next year!

We have four children and started this our children were young so it may or may not work for you. We only have big birthday parties on the even years. The children can invite up to their age in guests, although they've often chosen less guests as they've gotten older. On the odd years, we have a family birthday party which could include dinner out inviting one friend or inviting a friend and their family over to our house for dinner. It's worked well for us. This year my second daughter chose to go to the movies with my husband (their birthdays are two days apart). We had the obligatory cake with just our family and one neice at home. I start the first of four BIG parties in a row starting in August. It means that every other year I go crazy, but I love helping them choose a theme and creating a party around it. Good luck!
