Check out MacPhail they have terrific classes for kids and have sites all over the twin cities. We like the Apple Valley campus located at Paideia Academy.

Another vote for Music Together. I've taken my kids (ages 10mo, 2.5 and 5.5) to several sessions and they all love it, even my baby who is 10 months old smiles and joins in. The class is for ages birth to Kindergarten and we sing, dance, and try out instruments. My girls are always singing songs from class at home and my son who is the baby bounces right along w/ them. We attend at the Shakopee location, the info is in the Community Ed booklet and you can register through them. We love it!:) The next session starts the week after New Year's.

MacPhail has wonderful classes for little ones at all ages. They are starting their spring semester in the end of January, so it's a perfect time to sign up. I'm sure you can observe a class or two first if you'd like to as well. They are wonderful! www.macphail.org

I highly recommend Music Together. In the beginning of class as people arrive kids are able to play with different kiddy musical instruments then the parents and kids sing songs and do dance activities etc. It's important that parents participate as kids will learn from you. It took my oldest about 3 6-8 week sessions before she openly participated but each kids is different and depends on their personality. You get a song book and two music CD's to listen to. In each class you have a part of the music where you grab whatever kiddy music instrument you want and go to the beat or whatever. They open and close the session with the same songs each time. It was really fun and enjoyable for our whole family and my kids learned many new songs. It'll take years for kids to develop certain musical aspects and beats etc. but by taking multiple sessions kids build their knowledge. Here's their website. They are a bit pricey but we felt it was well worth it if it would help our child learn. http://www.musictogether.com/

I would recommend checking out a Kindermusik class. I've taken my 2 1/2 year old daughter since she was 5 months old. Yesterday she recognized the instrumental version of The Little Drummer boy on her own and I was very impressed. You can take a class for free and check out a teacher near your area.

Another great organization for music at young ages is Musikgarten. You can find a teacher in your area by visiting Musikgarten.org
