My 10 month old's tooth on the upper gum has got chipped n I noticed tht his tooth has turned yellow.. I called up my friend who is a dentist to see him. she said the tooth is chipped cos of falling or biting hard stuffs(which my lil one usually did).. she said the tooth may turn pink n gradually dark.. thts so scary n m worried a lot.. The tooth has just started to come down n she said this must have broken from inside.. change in color is bothering me... worried that it shouldn't turn into any other kind of infection.. if anyone gone thru this plz share ur exp..

What can I do next?

You should have it seen by a pediatric dentist.
You need to find out if the injury will have an eventual impact on any developing adult teeth later on down the line.

Call the pediatrician and ask if your child should be seen in the office, or if you should see a pediatric dentist. Your friend talked about this on the phone but hasn't seen your child, right? So you don't know what's going on, and you're getting all upset. You don't even know if there is an infection present. So find out first.

This is a baby tooth, so maybe it will be fine once it falls out and his permanent tooth grows in. Even if it needs to be pulled out sooner, that may not mean anything long-lasting will happen once the permanent tooth comes in.

Talk to the doctor or the dentist about what the "hard stuff" is that your child is biting. Maybe he's putting stuff in his mouth that he shouldn't. But kids fall all the time and usually don't have long-lasting dental issues.

Well, you should take your child to a pediatric dentist. Don't expect your friend to give you free dental care. That's the way you lose a friend...

This is pretty common (though very hard on mommies and daddies). At least it's a baby tooth instead of a permanent tooth. I have a friend whose almost 4 year old has a dark tooth because of the same thing. Their ped dentist said to leave it alone. It happened two years ago.

You do need to have him seen. Just bite the bullet and go.

If you go see a PEDIATRIC dentist they'll likely cap your child's tooth to save it. The chip is allowing stuff to get inside the tooth and it can abscess while it decays.

Not to be mean but your friend isn't a pediatric dentist unless they only see kids under age 8 or so. A pediatric dentist specializes in baby teeth and taking care of infants, toddlers, and preschool age kids.

They will likely want to put your baby to sleep to do the work. They are specialists at this.

Our pediatric dentist in OKC/Midwest City practices at Children's Hospital and Midwest City Hospitals both. He does out patient dental work there and that made me feel even more okay with it all. IF something were to happen the hospital is all around the out patient operating rooms and on hand if needed.

Your little one needs their tooth seen by a professional that deals with their age group and knows their needs specifically.

You said you called your dentist friend to see him. Did she actually examine him or just consult over the phone? I'd take him in, it sounds like possible root damage, but I'm not sure what they do for primary teeth at that age. It is a tooth that will eventually fall out, but he's got years before that will happen, so treatment may be needed now. Try to keep him from biting hard stuff to prevent further damage. Good luck!
